Cliff with Seagull A few months later, Weston's great retrospective at the MOMA in NY was a great success, but his poor health shocked many of his friends. His son Cole, who came to the show on his way home having been demobbed from the US Navy, put his poor condition down to the shock of the break-up with Charis. A few weeks later he learnt the real reason when his father wrote telling him he had Parkinson's disease and asking Cole to come and be his assistant. Weston managed to continue to photograph for some time with Cole's help, but his will to make pictures ebbed away as his conditions worsened and his last pictures were taken at Point Lobos in 1948. The landscape works from these later years show a continuation of the development from the California work, drawing back and working with a wider area rather than the concentration on detail and abstraction of his earlier work. Many of them are fine pictures, although with a certain bleakness. It is in some ways the peak of his work, with pictures such as

The Southwest Room
The Southwest Room houses the library's collection of material on all aspects of the Southwest. The geographic focus includes all of New Mexico and Arizona, Texas west of the Pecos River, southern Utah, southern Colorado, southern Nevada, southeastern California, and northwestern Mexico. The collection is arranged according to the Library of Congress Classification. The following is a list of topics that can be found in the Southwest Room's circulating collection. The Library of Congress Classification letters (the beginning of the call numbers) follow in parentheses. The collection contains both fiction and non-fiction. The shelves are marked by topic.

Biographical Note
Roy Bedichek was born in 1878 in Illinois but moved to Texas as a child. After graduating from the University of Texas, he worked as a reporter, teacher, and editor and as secretary of various organizations before becoming associated with the University Interscholastic League in 1917 where he remained as director until 1948. He was an avid amateur naturalist and began to write about his interests in 1946. He completed four books before his death in 1959. Return to the Table of Contents

Biographical Note
Henry Cohen was born April 7, 1863 in London England. In 1884 he was ordained a rabbi and led congregations in Kingston, Jamaica (1884-1885) and Woodville, Mississippi (1885-1888) before transferring to Galveston, Texas where he led the Temple B'nai Israel from 1888 to 1949. Cohen was influential in religious and social welfare activities in Texas; he was especially well-known for his work on hospitals, schools, and immigration issues. A noted prison reformer, Cohen served on the Texas Prison Board. An authority on the Talmud, Cohen published a number of essays. He married Mollie Levy of Galveston and the couple had two children.
Scope and Contents
Papers concern Cohen's career and those of members of his family; his social welfare activities, especially in the fields of prison reform, hospitals, schools, and immigration. Papers include correspondence, diaries, notebooks, financial records, sermons, poetry, lectures, photographs, newspaper and magazine clippings, scrapbooks, certificates, postcards, galley proofs, and guest books.
