William Jefferson Clinton was born William Jefferson Blythe IV on August 19, 1946 in Hope, Arkansas, named for his father who had died three months prior to his birth in a traffic accident. His mother was Virginia Cassidy. When he was four years old his mother wed Roger Clinton of Hot Springs, Arkansas. At the age of 15, he legally changed his name to Clinton. Excelling as a student he attended Georgetown University, the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, and Yale University Law School. Returning to Arkansas he taught law at the University of Arkansas. In 1977, he married Hillary Rodham whom he had met while attending Yale University. Their daughter Chelsea was born in 1980. Clinton had shown an early interest in politics and his mother engaged him in political discussions, encouraging his ambitions. He became motivated to a life of public service after having met President John F. Kennedy in the Rose Garden of the White House while in high school. His political aspirations became precarious with his opposition to the Vietnam War. In his first foray into the political arena in 1974 he lost a bid to unseat the incumbent four-term Republican Congressman from Arkansas in a very close race. Clinton was elected state attorney general in 1976.

A Biography of William Jefferson Clinton (1946 - )
Octobre 2001 : Bill Clinton radié du barreau

Mars 2002 : L'affaire Monica Lewinsky définitivement close Bill Clinton was born William Jefferson Blythe IV on August 19, 1946, in Hope, Arkansas. His father, an automobile-parts salesman, died in a car accident three months before Bill was born. His mother, Virginia Cassidy, married Roger Clinton, an automobile dealer, when Bill was seven years old. The family moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas, where Bill and his younger half brother, Roger, Jr., attended public schools. His mother often engaged Bill in political discussions and encouraged his ambitions. Growing up had its difficulties, however, because his stepfather was an alcoholic who sometimes beat his mother. Virginia and Roger eventually divorced but soon remarried, when Bill was 15. As a gesture Bill had his last name legally changed to Clinton. Bill participated in many activities, including student government, at Hot Springs High School. In the summer of 1963 he was chosen to attend the American Legion Boys State, a government and leadership conference, in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was elected a senator and given the opportunity to go to Washington, D.C. where he shook hands with President John F. Kennedy. When Bill returned to Arkansas, politics became a pursuit from which he never wavered. After high school, Clinton went to Georgetown University. While pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies he worked for Democratic Senator William Fulbright of Arkansas, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, who became an outspoken opponent of the Vietnam War. Clinton's own opposition to the war grew as he attended hearings and clipped newspapers.

Bill Clinton
By Gabe and Sotiri Before he was a President, he was a professor at the University of Arkansas Law School. In 1978, Bill Clinton ran against David Pryor for Governor of Arkansas and won effortlessly. He received sixty percent of the vote against four opponents in the Democratic primary election and sixty three percent against the Republican candidate, Lynn Lowe, in the general election. At the age of 32, he became one of the youngest governors in US history. In fall of 1993, Bill Clinton defeated George Bush and was elected President of the United States. Clinton, a Democrat, picked Al Gore as his Vice-Presidential running mate. Clinton won the election with forty three percent of the popular vote. George Bush received thirty eight percent. Bill Clinton appointed more women and minorities to major departments than any other president. They include Attorney General Janet Reno, the first woman to hold that office, Secretary of Agriculture Mike Espy, Secretary of Commerce Ron Brown and Secretary of Health and Human Services Donna Shalala. Unfortunately, in 1998 Bill Clinton had an affair with Monica Lewinsky. At first he denied it, but later on they had proof and he admitted that he did. There were many hearings and trials to find out if he lied, and finally they found out. After that, they had (again) many trials and hearings to decide if he should be impeached.

President William Jefferson Clinton
Served 1993-1997, 1997-2001 William Jefferson Clinton was born William Jefferson Blythe IV on August 19, 1946, in Hope, Arkansas, three months after his father died in a traffic accident. When he was four years old, his mother wed Roger Clinton, of Hot Springs, Arkansas. In high school, he took the family name. Clinton excelled as a student and as a saxophone player and once considered becoming a professional musician. As a delegate to Boys Nation while in high school, he met President John Kennedy in the White House Rose Garden. The encounter led him to enter a life of public service. Clinton graduated from Georgetown University and in 1968 won a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University. He received a law degree from Yale University in 1973 and returned to Arkansas to entered politics. In 1973, Clinton was defeated in his campaign for Congress in Arkansas's Third District. In 1974, he married Hillary Rodham, a graduate of Wellesley College and Yale Law School. In 1976, Clinton was elected Arkansas Attorney General. In 1978, he was elected governor. In 1980, Chelsea, the Clintons' only child, was born. In 1982, Clinton lost a bid for a second term as governor, but won in 1986 and 1990, serving until 1992, when he defeated incumbent George Bush and third party candidate Ross Perot in the Presidential race. Clinton and his running mate, Tennessee's Senator Albert Gore Jr., then 44, represented a new generation in American political leadership. For the first time in 12 years both the White House and Congress were held by the same party. Despite Democratic Party control of the House, the Senate, and the White House, Clinton failed in his second year to get approval of a huge program of health care reform. Clinton then shifted emphasis, declaring "the era of big government is over." Instead of sweeping national change, he sought legislation to upgrade education, to protect jobs of parents who must care for sick children, to restrict handgun sales, and to strengthen environmental rules.
