The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Commonly referred to as the Mormon Church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is a world-wide organization who's central mission is to invite all to "come unto Christ" and partake of his grace, without which there would be no salvation. Accordingly, our first principles are "Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ" and "Repentance". Our primary ordinances are "Baptism by immersion..." and the "Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost". "We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience and allow all men the same privilege." We strive to follow the teachings of the Savior, to "Let (our) light so shine before men, that they may see (our) good works, and glorify (our) Father which is in heaven." (Matt. 5:16) While our world-wide organization is centrally administered, all local leadership, teachers, and other volunteers are called from among the congregations wherein they reside. The following quotes the relevant portions of an e-mail letter from R. Ben Madison, General Church Historian for the Restoration Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, dated 23 December 1995. (Formatting has been changed slightly to accomodate the switch from plain text e-mail to the World-Wide Web, but the content and impact have remained as they originally were.) Greetings! This is in response to your request for official information about the Restoration Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I am enclosing a statement which I've sent to a number of people on the 'net who have written asking for such information... Restoration Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints World Headquarters:
801 West 23rd Street
Independence, Missouri 64055 [USA] Telephone: (816)254-9590; fax (816)254-8650 History During the 1960's and 1970's, the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (the RLDS Church) experienced several dramatic changes in its theology, self-image, and beliefs. For the most part these changes, instituted by Church leaders and education officials, took the RLDS Church away from its traditional "Mormon" roots and brought it close to the "Protestant mainstream" by reflecting liberal reinterpretations fashionable in the 1960's. In February of 1981, a group of concerned Elders gathered in Independence, Missouri. Committed to the Church's traditional beliefs, these Elders formed what became known as the "Saturday Night Class." They met to prayerfully study the Scriptures and understand from God's word the ongoing situation in the RLDS Church. Prominent among these first members were Frederick O. Weddle and William S. Whenham. At first, the Class had the official blessing of RLDS officials in the Center Stake.

We sing "joy" in thousands of congregations. We say "hope" in scores of languages. We live God's love in hundreds of cultures, tribes, and ethnic communities. We proclaim "peace" in some fifty nations. We are one and we are many. We are diverse, yet we are community. For we are Christ's. We did not choose him. He chose us. But we are disciples who live in a world where the face of Jesus is torn....We, too, have torn the face of Jesus. Yet God chooses us. We are many, but we are one.
