We believe in the fullness of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ as revealed through the Prophet Joseph Smith, Jr., and as commanded to be taught and practiced anew by the Lord in this very day through direct revelation, saying: " Thus saith the Lord." "Except the LORD of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant , we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah." (Is 1:9) We have been called forward as the remnant spoken of so frequently in the scriptures, to establish Zion upon the earth, empowered with the authority and divine directive to do so. This prophesied event is transpiring in the face of the LDS Church's failure to keep their covenants and abide by God's laws. This is the fulfillment of the works of Joseph Smith, Jr. who still reigns as the head of the Dispensation of the Fullness of Times, whose work is to prepare this earth for the return of Jesus Christ, our King. Weekly Quote: "There is nothing short of complete apostasy, a complete denial of every principle we have received, a throwing away of the Holy Priesthood, that can save us from persecution. When this takes place, when all the chief features of the Gospel are obliterated, when we can float along the stream and do as the world does, then and not till then will persecution cease, or until the adversary is bound."

  • Name: Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (RLDS)
  • Founder: Joseph Smith III, son of founder of the Mormon Church, Joseph Smith Jr.
  • Date of Birth and Death:
  • Year Group was Founded:
  • How/Why:
Joseph Smith Jr. claimed to receive revelation from God instructing him how to restore to the earth the same church that Christ founded. Smith thus became founder, president and prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church) . In June, 1844, Smith was murdered by a mob in Carthage, Illinois. In the ensuing turmoil, the majority of Mormons accepted Brigham Young as the next prophet of the church. A few, however, thought that Smith designated his 12 year-old son Joseph Smith III as his successor. This group did not follow the majority of Mormons to Utah, and in 1860, when Joseph Smith III had matured, this group founded the RLDS Church in Illinois with Smith as prophet. The church moved its headquarters to Independence, Missouri in 1920 due to a 19th-century Joseph Smith Jr. statement designating the city as Zion.

Organization Structure: Similar to most other churches which claim Joseph Smith, Jr. as their founder, the RLDS Church is led by a Prophet and his counselors. These men are known collectively as the First Presidency. In addition, the RLDS Church has a Council of Twelve Apostles. There are lesser offices in the RLDS Church such as Bishops, Elders, etc. Unique Terms: An RLDS Fundamentalist or Restorationist is one who believes the Book of Mormon is historically and theologically accurate. They also believe the RLDS Church, as defined by Joseph Smith III, is the only true church. Other Names: The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is often referred to by the abbreviation RLDS. Also, in the 1970's, an official nickname, Saints' Church was designated. In addition, in most areas outside the English-speaking world, the RLDS Church is known as the Restored Church of Jesus Christ (

It is distinct from the larger and more well-known Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints , although both organizations claim to be the original church established by Joseph Smith, Jr. , on April 6 According to the Strangites, Joseph Smith Jr. appointed James J. According to Strang, at the time Smith was assassinated in 1844, Strang was visited by angels, who ordained him to be Smith's successor. See Revelations of James J. Strang . Strang's claim to be Smith's successor was opposed by others, including Brigham Young , who led a group of Mormons to Utah which became the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After the death of Joseph Smith, Strang and his followers (which numbered about 12,000) settled in Wisconsin , and then Michigan . After Strang was assassinated in , the group almost vanished. (MORMON)
The most successful of the many groups which have been labeled "cult", the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has over two million members and dominates the religious life of the Rocky Mountain area from Boise, Idaho, to Phoenix, Arizona. Started in the early ninetenth century, it has grown steadily into a worldwide ecclesiastical body.
FOUNDER AND EARLY HISTORY: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, popularly called the Mormons, was founded by Joseph Smith, Jr. (born December 23, 1805 in Sharon, Vermont). As a youth, Smith had moved from Vermont to western New York, near the town of Palmyra. Western New York was, during the early ninetenth century, one of the places in which the various protestant churches fought vigorously over the allegiance of a largely unchurched population. Some of Smith's family joined the Presbyterians, but young Joe was partial to Methodism. Undecided as to which group to join, Smith's problem was solved by a vision he had in 1820. God the Father and Jesus appeared to him and told him to join no church as they were all wrong. This vision was the first of a series that would lead to the founding of a new Church. In 1823 he was visited by the Angel Moroni who told him of some plates buried nearby upon which was written an account of the ancient inhabitants of North America. Buried with the plates were two stones with which Smith could translate the plates. Smith was informed of the exact location of the plates in 1827 and began the task of translating them. The translation was published in 1830 as the Book of Mormon (hence the popular designation of Smith's followers).

A cult of Christianity is a group of people, which claiming to be Christian, embraces a particular doctrinal system taught by an individual leader, group of leaders, or organization, which (system) denies (either explicitly or implicitly) one or more of the central doctrines of the Christian faith as taught in the sixty-six books of the Bible. While the claims of Mormonism must be firmly rejected, Christians should reach out to Mormons with the "gentleness and respect" 1 Peter 3:15 calls for, "in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth..." (

The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is America's largest polygamous group. It is a sect of Mormonism , which itself is a cult of Christianity . Now 59, she's out of the sect and known for helping other women leave. Larson's enemies tell her she'll wind up in hell. Those she's rescued think otherwise. "They say Aunt Jenny is an agent of the devil," says Dusty Lato, one of many who sought her assistance over the years. "But to me she was a godsend."

    Distinctive Doctrines
The church teaches plurality of wives as a general requirement for the highest eternal salvation of men. It is generally believed in the church that a man should have three wives to fulfill this requirement. Critics of this belief say that its practice leads unavoidably to bride shortages and likely to child marriages, incest, and child abuse. The church currently practices "The Law of Placing" under which all marriages are assigned by the prophet of the church. Many outside of the church, and some inside, view this practice as unduly authoritarian though it helps address by edict the problem of wife shortages. Under the Law of Placing, the prophet elects to give or take wives to or from men according to their worthiness.
