My Testimony and Beliefs I know that Jesus Christ lives and he loves each one of us. Our Heavenly Father loves us too. We all make mistakes and that is why Jesus Christ died for us so we may be able to return to live with our Heavenly Father once more. I know I will be with my family forever if we do what is right. I also know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and was translated by Joseph Smith, a prophet of God. There is also a living PROPHET today, President Gorden B. Hinckley. We can talk to God, but a prophet can talk to God and hear his word for all of us. This is the way we know what he wants us to do as his children. (Added 11/13/01 - I have been reading The Book of Mormon everyday since November 6, 2001 and I have been closer to my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. It was hard to do before but now I want to read it everyday. It helps you live a better life and want to do the things Our Heavenly Father wants me to do. Read it and you will find that out for yourself.) I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Mormon Connection
The LDS Church and Genealogy
by Jan McClintock
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints maintains the largest genealogical data collection in the world, at the main Family History Library in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. The library collects information from members and other submitters through the Genealogical Society of Utah, the corporate business end of the Family History Department of the church.
The reason that the LDS church is so interested in genealogy is explained in church doctrine: family love and life can continue forever, even after death. To help make this happen, members want to be able to perform the temple ordinances, namely baptisms, endowments, and sealings to spouses and to parents, and also confirmations and ordinations. Endowments are like promises to the Lord to obey the covenants that are set by Him for life on Earth. Sealings are a binding together of families; husband and wife, and children to parents, in order to spend eternity together.
The church believes that these ordinances should be performed on behalf of ancestors who did not have the opportunity themselves. Ancestors are not forced to take the ordinances; they must accept the opportunity to do so.

The Anchorage Alaska Temple
of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
The second of the new small temples, Anchorage incorporates several new features. For example, the Angel Moroni on the Monticello Temple is white, durring overcast days the statue seems to disappear because of its unobtrusive color. For the Anchorage Temple the Angel Moroni is gold as in all other temples. To give the temple an Alaskan feel the west wall includes several star stones set in the pattern of the Big Dipper. This constellation is important for two reasons. Since the Big Dipper points to the north star, and hence represents northern lands, it was used in the Alaskan state flag. Its pointing to the north star, which is the only fixed star in the sky, also symbolizes pointing the way to truth, and as such it is part of the symbolism on the exterior of the Salt Lake Temple. Also, stylized evergreen trees are seen on most of the doors, forget-me-nots, the Alaska State flower, decorate the Sealing Room, and the altars are decorated with Native American influenced designs. The temple was announced in October 1997.

Followers of this religion are called Mormons. From a handful of members at the beginning, the movement has grown steadily through proselytizing and a relatively high birth rate. By the early 2000s there were 5.5 million Mormons in the United States and the number in other countries around the world totaled about 6.5 million. Before World War II conversions had been most numerous in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Scandinavia, but during recent years the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has grown rapidly in developing countries. In Mexico, for example, there were 850,000 Mormons in 2000, most of them converted since 1975. In South Korea, the Latter-day Saints had no adherents before 1950, but by 2000 there were 71,000 members. A vigorous missionary program—a rotating force of about 60,000 preaching Mormon doctrine in more than 330 missions in the United States and abroad—assures a steady influx of new members.

Word: Word Starts with Ends with Definition The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint A Latter-day Saint (LDS) is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). The term "Latter-day Saint", as spelled with a hyphen and a lower-case "d", has a different meaning than the older and more general term "Latter Day Saint", which applies to all sects that derive their religious heritage from Joseph Smith, Jr. The British spelling "Latter-day Saint" originated in 1852 when the LDS Church was incorporated in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Click the link for more information. s , also widely known as the " Mormon Alternate meaning : Mormon (prophet) A Mormon is an adherent of Mormonism, and is often referred to as a Latter Day Saint. The word Mormonism was first used in the 1830s as a derogatory name for followers of Joseph Smith, Jr. who accepted The Book of Mormon as a sacred text, but the term soon lost its derogatory connotation. Most Mormons today generally consider the word as inoffensive, though most prefer the term Latter Day Saint. In addition, some churches within the Latter Day Saint movement have avoided and discouraged the term Mormon because of its primary association with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (also called the "LDS Church").

Most prominent among the six buildings on Temple Square is the Salt Lake Temple , whose neo-Gothic exterior is a widely-recognized symbol of the devotion of the early Mormon pioneers, and whose interior, to the surprise of many, contains no pipe organs. 59. Utah History Encyclopedia
THE Church of Jesus Christ of LatterDay Saints The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is commonly known as the Mormon Church or the LDS Church.
http://www.media.utah.edu/UHE/c/CHURCHJESUSLATTER.html
THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is commonly known as the Mormon Church or the LDS Church. Members of the church were the first permanent non-Native American settlers in the Territory of Utah, and they still comprise approximately 70 percent of Utah's population.
Organization, Teachings, and Practices
Latter-day Saints believe that their church is the authentic restoration of the church established by Jesus Christ in New Testament times. Its authority to perform saving ordinances and do other things in God's name comes from the priesthood, which was restored to Joseph Smith through heavenly messengers and is passed on to all worthy male members through ordination. At the head of the church stands the president of the church, who is considered God's living prophet. He and his two counselors constitute a quorum known as the First Presidency. Next to them stand the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and they are assisted in administering the Church worldwide by two Quorums of the Seventy. A Presiding Bishopric, consisting of three men, administers the temporal affairs of the Church.
All these leaders are known collectively as the General Authorities of the church. Other general church officers include the presidency of the Relief Society (a women's organization founded by Joseph Smith), the presidency of the young women's association, the presidency of the young men's association, the presidency of the Sunday School, and the presidency of the Primary (a churchwide organization for children).
