Okay yes, we're crazy. Somehow we've gotten it into our heads that we're going to build a boat. A Coracle to be precise is what we'll be starting with to see how we like it. We've bandied about the idea of a Dug out and a Currach as well.
Coracle and Currach Design
  • A boat made from a light framework or woven basket structure covered in animal skin or tarred cloth. "Of such antiquity that there is no certainty as to how or when the boats originated." [Shaw-Smith pg. 96] Variables in design between regions consist in shape and size with a fine line between the coracle which is mainly a small lake and river craft and a currach which is a larger vessel often sea worthy. The names are often interchanged.
