Spiritwalk Library Project Gutenberg http://www.gutenberg.net Project Gutenberg is the Internet's oldest producer of FREE electronic books (eBooks or eTexts). It intends to put as many books on-line as possible and to gather these on line works into one central location. It is a terrific service of the University of Illinois.
Project Gutenberg is the brainchild of Michael Hart, who in 1971 decided that it would be a really good idea if lots of famous and important texts were freely available to everyone in the world. Since then, he has been joined by hundreds of volunteers who share his vision. Now, more than thirty years later, Project Gutenberg has the following figures (as of November 8th 2002): 203 New eBooks released during October 2002, 1975 New eBooks produced in 2002 (they were 1240 in 2001) for a total of 6267 Total Project Gutenberg eBooks. 119 eBooks have been posted so far by Project Gutenberg of Australia

THE FACULTY Dr. William B. Harrison, the director of the Nuclear Sciences Division was appointed concurrently Director of the School of Nuclear Engineering in 1962. His quiet charm and persistence made him an ideal choice to get this fledgling department off the ground. Though it expanded fairly rapidly the school remained small enough to retain a close personal contact between faculty and graduate students through most of its existence. The 1964-1965 Graduate Catalogue contains the following listing: W. B. Harrison, Director; Neely Professor N. W. Snyder; Professors G. G. Eichholz, C. J. Roberts; collaborating staff members of other schools and departments: D. S. Harmer, D. W. Martin, and W. Simpson (Physics); H. M. Neumann (Chemistry); W. E. Moody (Ceramic Engneering); F. G. Pohland (Civil Engineering); J. D. Fleming and N. N. Engel (Chemical Engineering); R. H. Fetner (Biology); L. T. Gallaher (Rich Electronic Computer Center); and Special Lecturer D. C. Hamilton (ORNL). Some of those listed were no longer actively involved with NE by that time, but the listing illustrates the kind of campus support. A few years later the NE faculty was fully self-contained through the core curriculum still contained NE-dedicated courses in Physics (Martin, Wyly), Biology (Fetner, Yeargers, Walls), Chemistry (Neumann, Fink) and Mathematics.

The first time
Forgotten footnote of university history receiving her due recognition as first African-American graduate By Leneva Morgan Callaway
Administrative editor Mary Frances Early poses at a piano in 1961 as she prepared to enter the University of Georgia as a graduate student. Early was the first African-American to graduate from UGA. Associated Press The paper has yellowed a bit, but the message in the letter is as inspirational as if it were written yesterday. Perhaps, even more. It's been 39 years since Mary Frances Early received the now-cherished letter from the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The letter delivered words of encouragement and congratulations to the young woman who had just made history. Early, an Atlanta native, had visited Ebenezer Baptist Church on occasion to hear the civil rights leader preach, and King had pointed her out to the congregation. He encouraged her to keep up the good work, to stay the course.

http://members.tripod.com/~brundag1/index-5.html
The Civil Wars' letters, diaries and memoirs are here! This is the real Civil War as lived and fought by the men and women of the Blue and the Gray. " A Wisconsin Boy in Dixie: The Civil War Letters of James K. Newton" by Stephen Ambrose - Editor James Newton was literate, knowledgable and intuitive. And he was thrust into being a soldier at the age of 18. He experienced Shiloh, Corinth, the Red River campaign and Vicksburg among many other important Civil War battles and duty stations. You will find no first person account which details these major events with better thought or literary ability. Newton also wrote with a sense of humor which he describes as "the soldier's best friend." Don't miss this informative and emotional account of a soldier's experience from being a private earkly in the war to becoming an officer bedore it's end in 1865.
Order in Paper Back "A Wisconsin Boy in Dixie..." for under $9.00. " Civil War Nurse: The Diary and Letters of Hannah Ropes" by Hannah Ropes This book happens to be a personal favorite of mine. Hannah Ropes was an opinionated, outspoken, lioness and a delightful person. At least that is what I read in her letters and diary. She was also loving, dedicated and most effective. Her life before the war had been that of a writer and an activist. During the war she quite literally worked herself to death as a nurse in a Washington D.C. hospital. There is much to learn of Civil War medicine and politics in this book. There is more to learn about what a dedicated American can accomplish as a volunteer.

By Norman Duncan "Week in an' week out, from year's end t' year's end, I've been blackmailin' the owner o' that ship! Hist! Bend your ear, Mr. Cather. I'll whisper his name. Hist!" He whispered the name of the man. "Hist!" he interrupted. " 'Twas he. 'Twas that same honorable gentleman. He've growed into a big bug since the days o' the Will-o'-the-Wisp. Feel under the pillow, Mr. Cather. Have you got Tom Callaway's Bible? Aye? The paper's within. Take the oath, Mr. Cather, that you'll make a gentleman o' Tom Callaway's son."
