He was a founder of the Social Democratic party in 1897 and after 1902 supported the Socialist party. Active in spreading socialist teachings among Jewish workers, he encouraged the unionization of East Side garment workers and supported them in their strikes. Cahan's writings in English, particularly Yekl: a Tale of the New York Ghetto The Imported Bridegroom and Other Stories (1898), and The Rise of David Levinsky (1917), are recognized for their historical portrayals of the immigrant experience. Mit Recht hat der "Neue Vorwärts" auf die Wirkung hingewiesen, den der Gewaltfriede von Moskau auf das deutsche Volk machen muss, das wieder einmal belehrt wurde, dass der Starke über den Schwachen ungestraft siegt, und auf die Neutralen, die sich nun noch mehr an ihre Neutralität klammern werden. Aber der "Sieg" Stalins stellt sich doch immer mehr als fragwürdig heraus. Es ist zwar unbekannt, was die beiden damaligen "Achsen"-Partner am Brenner gesagt haben, aber es ist nur zu wahrscheinlich, dass Hitler den Plan eines Dreibundes mit Mussolini und Stalin und eine Aufteilung Südosteuropas unter dem Einfluss der drei Diktatoren vorgelegt hat. Mussolini aber scheint darauf nicht eingegangen zu sein, sondern an seinem Plan eines Viermächtebundes Italien-Deutschland-England-Frankreich festgehalten zu haben, von dem freilich unklar ist, wie er sich verwirklichen lassen soll, solange Hitler in Deutschland regiert.
