Walking Tours This walk starts at the Sandwich Glass Museum, ends at the Dunbar Tea Shop, and takes 2 to 4 hours, depending on the number of stops you make; you'll cover about 1 1/4 miles. Your best bet is to explore the village on any midsummer day between 10am and 4pm, except Sunday, when some spots are closed. You may park (free with admission) at the Sandwich Glass Museum, 129 Main St. (tel. ), a well-curated collection tracing the town's history with an emphasis on glass made in Sandwich from 1825 to 1888. Farther down Grove Street is Old Cemetery Point, overlooking peaceful Shawme Pond, about 1/3 mile down the road. Read the historic headstones and keep an eye out for box turtles. Head back through the center of town and observe the exterior of Old Town Hall, on Main Street a magnificent Greek Revival edifice, complete with Doric columns. It still houses some town offices. Continue down Main Street, past the First Church of Christ

Introduction
The Arthur H. Thornhill Papers consists of selected papers, photographs, and memorabilia of Arthur H. Thornhill, Jr., Princeton Class of 1946, pertaining to his publishing career at Little, Brown and Company and his involvement in a variety of organizations and activities within the publishing industry. Also present in the collection is a limited amount of material from Thornhill's father, Arthur H. Thornhill, Sr., who preceded his son as president of Little, Brown and Company. Range of Collection Dates
Size : 5.17 linear feet (14 archival boxes) Provenance : Arthur H. Thornhill, Jr. donated this collection of his personal papers to the Princeton University Library in the fall of 2000. Over the course of his publishing career at Little, Brown and Company, he corresponded with many authors in addition to a wide variety of people in the publishing industry. Thornhill notes, however, that there are "many gaps" in his papers at Princeton due to the fact that the majority of his material was included with the Little, Brown company files that went to Harvard University's Houghton Library in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Restrictions : The correspondence file of Henry Kissinger is restricted for five years until January 1, 2005.

Back to Teaching Center The possibilities are literally endless when it comes to nature study. All ages are fascinated by their natural world, and all subject matters can be implemented into such a curriculum. Don't feel confined to just earth science or environmental awareness. Don't limit your nature study only to special occasions like Earth Day. Take advantage of all the seasons, wherever you live. Use your imagination to blend the natural world with traditional subjects like literature, mathematics, history, art, health, and music, as well as skills in manual dexterity, cooperation, observation and analysis, ethics, social responsibility, and the like. And once you've begun a unit of study, don't be afraid to color outside the lines. In other words, your predefined lesson plans needn't be etched in stone. Improvise! Let the kids lead some of the lessons! Let the lessons lead themselves! You'll discover additional learning opportunities you never anticipated. Throughout this site you'll find numerous suggestions and inspiration for activities and lesson plans. Additionally, I thought I'd make note of a few other specific topics that you might want to pursue. Have fun! R ACHEL CARSON (1907-1964)-Considered one of the most influential 20th century Americans, she was a biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service who alerted the world to the dangers of pollution and pesticides in her book

Short Story Classic Maugham's style is perfectly suited for short story writing. His facility of communicating all kinds of ideas is truly amazing. Thus his stories feel like a light read, but they also often give you pauseMaugham is trying to pry deep into what makes people think and act the way they do. He wrote his stories a century ago, and the mark of the time lies firmly upon some of them. It is clear that he was influenced by psychological insgihts and ideas that have penetrated intellectual circles of his time. Read these stories for their ease of communication, ideas about human nature, and vivid images, such as those of the South Pacific and the industrial landscape of the rising American giant. Unforeseen Twists of Fate As a master of the short story, W. Somerset Maugham (1874-1965) was the highest paid author in the 1930's. He was born in the British Embassy in Paris, on January 25, 1874.
