In this film she is always looking out for everyone's welfare. She'd be a fantastic neighbour if she weren't so, well, shrewish. Image taken from http:// www.uidaho.edu/~davi9091/nimh.html The film: The Secret of NIMH, produced and directed by Don Bluth, was released in 1982, has been released on video cassette as recently as 1994 (...) The film's story is based (more or less) on the children's novel Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O'Brien. First published in 1971, it won the 1972 John Newbery Medal for excellence in children's literature and has displayed the medal on its cover ever since. Robert O'Brien died in 1973, never seeing the film. His daughter, Jane Leslie Conly, has since taken up where her father left off, and has written two sequels, Racso and the Rats of NIMH and R-T, Margaret and the Rats of NIMH. Author: Mary C. Legg
Published on: August 5, 2003 Although, Thornton Burgess first book, The Bride's Primer (1905) landed in obscurity. His second, Old Mother West Wind (1910) began a successful series that not only outlasted publishers and illustrators, but also spanned decades with the collaboration of Harrison Cody. Today, with publishers, agents and children's writing sites strongly discouraging talking animals, Thornton Burgess and Harrison Cody are enjoying a strong revival as a result of the Gutenberg Project making people aware of valuable old books discarded years ago. With an upsurge of academic interest in fairytales, Victorian and Edwardian children's books are in demand with a large growth in the reprint and ebook industry. Scarcely on the internet a year ago, Thornton Burgess brought up over 4000hits with large collections of titles now available. Old Mother West Wind http://www.boop.org/jan/omww/ The W. CAPE COD
Route 28 "south" goes compass east from the canal and compass north from Chatham. The Cape is a Terminal Moraine. Sand with a few big rocks. This means almost all of the wading is on solid ground, in fresh and salt. A big advantage is that by law you can "navigate, fish and hunt" below the high tide mark of any shore. You can also wade around ponds successfully just following the shore and staying in the water on firm footing and off private property. No boat necessary! This is also true for hunting (given the 500' relief from "a dwelling in use"), birding, etc. "East is least and West is best"... ( wind for fishing ).
Cape Cod ponds are kettle ponds formed by large calved chunks of galcier left buried in the sand. When they melted they left DEEP holes. Holes still 50' to 80' deep in even little 25 acre ponds! Some ponds are just flooded marshes barely five feet deep (look for the dam) and others will surprise you. Check map and chart data and your sonar often.
