The Pogues dedicated this release "to the 95 people who died at Hillsborough Football Ground." On 15 April 1989, supporters of the Liverpool Football Club were crushed to death at a FA cup semi-final match against Nottingham when police opened a gate which allowed hundred of fans to pour through onto an already packed terrace. The official death total is now at 96 (95 died at the stadium, one later in hospital) with another 730 injured, and to date, British justice has been unable or unwilling to hold any authorities (police officials who ordered the gate opened, sports/stadium officials who organized the event, etc.) responsible for the deaths. Also, on the front cover photo, note the boxer's right hand (he's got six fingers). White City

he Anglo-Irish dramatist Dionysius "Dion" Lardner Boucicault achieved his first great success when he was just twenty . Born in Dublin in late December 1820, Boucicault had been sent to England to complete his education. At Dr. Jamieson's Academy, Brentford, he began writing dramatic sketches. Shortly afterward, he took up a stage career under the pseudonym Lee Moreton, playing in his own Legend of Devil's Dyke at Brighton in October 1838. Then, through a lucky error occasioned by his stage name, Boucicault managed to get Charles Matthews, manager of Covent Garden, to read an unsolicited manuscript of what (with the editing and assistance of the actor-manager team of Matthews and Madame Vestris) became London Assurance . When the comedy opened on 4 March, 1841, the young dramatist's future seemed assured. The play established him as "the cleverest, raciest, and most theatrically inventive playwright of his age," as Andrew Parkin remarks in Victorian Britain, An Encyclopedia

Dion Boucicault's remarkable career began in 1841 with the successful production of his own (with Charles Mathews) London Assurance and continued virtually unabated until his death in 1890. As a playwright, he had an uncanny knack for anticipating the fickle tastes of his audiences on both sides of the Atlantic and providing them with just the novelty they wanted. When they wanted historical romance, he gave them Louis XI; when domestic plays were to be in vogue, he provided Dot (an adaptation of Dicken's The Cricket in the Hearth); when Irish plays were to take the field, came Arrah na Pogue, The Shaughraun and Robert Emmet ; when Americans wanted to see themselves portrayed, he gave them The Octoroon ; when the sensationalism of horse-racing (and those astonishing Victorian dioramas) caught the public's eye, he gave them

Playwright, born in Dublin and educated at University College School, London,
began his career as an actor and achieved great success with his comedy London Assurance (1841),
written under the pseudonym of Lee Morton. He subsequently wrote and adapted some 200 plays,

The Colleen Bawn; or the brides of Garryowen (1860), Arra-na-Pogue; or The Wicklow Wedding (1864),

his career was marked by spectacular successes and reverses, and he was responsible for important innovations,
With the rise of realism and the emergence of Ibsen and G. B. Shaw, his work fell out of fashion,
