Absolutely Fabulous I loved this book so much, I actually visited Savannah, Ga., to see the locations referred to therein...Bo Peep is/was a legend in his own time, I will not forget this! Nostalgia As a kid growing up in Savannah, I used to be sent to Bo Peep's by my grandfather H. Blair(mentioned in the book) to retrieve my uncle "Boogie" who loved playing pool far more than practicing law. What a rich, wonderful stroll down memory lane. Excellent intrigue, scandal, celebrities, sex, violence!! This book carefully relates the story of Savannah's infamous "wheeler-dealer" Bo Peep, internationally known book maker, gambler...funny, heart rendering, graphic...I read it in one day, re-read it again the following week. Super insight to a notorious figure. Activists Speak Out: Reflections on the Pursuit of Change in America Published in Hardcover by Palgrave Macmillan (February, 2001)

      Henry Green (Henry Yorke): Loving

      Henry Green (Henry Yorke): Nothing

The British writer Henry Green's literary skill went far beyond a comedy of manners, which this book appears to be on the surface. Dense with meaning, "Nothing" is a short literary gem, which forces the reader to read a million nuances into the witty and yet deeply dense conversations which make up the entirety of the book. Arnold Bennett: The Old Wives' Tale

Published in 1908. This study of the changes wrought by time on the lives of two English sisters during the 19th century is a masterpiece of literary realism. Constance and Sophia Baines, the daughters of a shopkeeper, grow up in the rural town of Bursley. Sophia eventually runs off and settles in Paris with her husband, who is a cad, and Constance remains behind in England and marries the mild-mannered shop assistant. The sisters are reunited years later when they are old, and Bennett skillfully contrasts what has remained stable in their characters with the differences time and environment have produced in their personalities. This long and ambitious work established Bennett's reputation as a novelist. (*****)

    Abstract:
Papers of the Lewis family, 19th-20th cent., mainly letters to Elizabeth, Lady Lewis (1844-1931)
    Shelfmarks: Dep. c. 831-53, d. 840, e. 393
    Scope and Content
Papers of the Lewis family, 19th-20th cent., mainly letters to: Elizabeth, Lady Lewis (1844-1931), with a few to her husband Sir George Lewis, 1st Bart. (1833-1911); to one of their daughters, Katherine Elizabeth Lewis (d. 1961), with a few to their son Sir George Lewis, 2nd Bart. (1868-1927); and to their grand-daughter Elizabeth Lewis, later Wansbrough (d. 1995). Many of the letters are undated; some can be dated from the postmark on the envelope, but several letters were kept in the wrong envelopes; most of Paderewski's and Whistler's letters had become separated from their envelopes. Bequeathed by Elizabeth Wansbrough to Ampleforth Abbey; deposited by Ampleforth Abbey, 1996.
