    SLAYINGS OF WITNESS AND COP POINT TO UNHAPPY FAMILY TIED TO DYING DON
    The murders of a government mob witness and an undercover police officer put Detectives Goren (VIncent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) deep inside the ugly family tree of a dying Mafia don (as Mario, guest star TBA) whose last living son is being challenged by a ratty punk (as Rickie, guest star TBA) who's both smart and good with a knife. Their family feud is clouded by the possible involvement of cruel Russian mobsters but Goren keeps his focus on the young men who secretly call upon the bed-ridden don and the unlikely key could be a trail of juicy Sicilian black figs. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance also star. TV-14

    Die Gebrüder Bell sind die Schwestern Brontë Nachdem das Buch "Jane Eyre" von Charlotte bzw. Currer Bell gleich nach Erscheinen ein Bestseller wurde, beginnen sich sofort Gerüchte um die Identität des Autors/der Autorin zu bilden. Der Titel der Erstausgabe "Jane Eyres" lautet "Jane Eyre - Eine Autobiografie - herausgegeben von Currer Bell". Das legt dem Leser die Vermutung nahe, es handele sich um die Lebenserinnerungen einer inzwischen verstorbenen Frau, die von dem bislang in der Literaturwelt unbekannten Currer Bell herausgegeben wurden. Die zweite Auflage trägt auf Rat des Verlegers schon einen geänderten Titel: das "herausgegeben" wird fallen gelassen. Außerdem widmet Charlotte die 2. Auflage dem von ihr verehrten Autor William M. Thackeray, der nach Erscheinen der ersten Auflage, eine sehr wohlwollende Kritik geschrieben hatte. William M. Thackeray Nach der 2. Auflage und nach Erscheinen von "Agnes Grey" von Anne und "Sturmhöhe" von Emily beginnt das Gerücht zu kursieren, die Verfasser Acton Bell (Annes Pseudonym), Ellis Bell (Emilys Pseudonym), Currer Bell seien alle die gleiche Person. Wer Bücher der Autorinnen Brontë gelesen hat, merkt sofort, dass sie thematisch und stilistisch große Unterschiede aufweisen.

    Apostasy This last denial of my faith,
    Thou, solemn Priest, hast heard;
    And, though upon my bed of death,
    I call not back a word.
    Point not to thy Madonna, Priest,
    Thy sightless saint of stone; She cannot, from this burning breast, Wring one repentant moan. Thou say'st, that when a sinless child, I duly bent the knee, And prayed to what in marble smiled Cold, lifeless, mute, on me. I did. But listen! Children spring Full soon to riper youth; And, for Love's vow and Wedlock's ring, I sold my early truth. 'Twas not a grey, bare head, like thine, Bent o'er me, when I said, "That land and God and Faith are mine, For which thy fathers bled." I see thee not, my eyes are dim; But well I hear thee say, "O daughter cease to think of him Who led thy soul astray. "Between you lies both space and time; Let leagues and years prevail To turn thee from the path of crime, Back to the Church's pale."

    Presentiment
    "Sister, you've sat there all the day,
    Come to the hearth awhile;
    The wind so wildly sweeps away,
    The clouds so darkly pile.
    That open book has lain, unread, For hours upon your knee; You've never smiled nor turned your head; What can you, sister, see?" "Come hither, Jane, look down the field; How dense a mist creeps on! The path, the hedge, are both concealed, Ev'n the white gate is gone No landscape through the fog I trace, No hill with pastures green; All featureless is Nature's face. All masked in clouds her mien. "Scarce is the rustle of a leaf Heard in our garden now; The year grows old, its days wax brief, The tresses leave its brow. The rain drives fast before the wind, The sky is blank and grey; O Jane, what sadness fills the mind On such a dreary day!" "You think too much, my sister dear; You sit too long alone; What though November days be drear?

    I am neither a man nor a woman but an author.
    - in a letter to William Smith Williams [ Authors
    St. John is unmarried: he never will marry now. . . . The last letter I received from him drew from my eves human tears, and yet filled my heart with divine joy: he anticipated his sure reward, his incorruptible crown. I know that a stranger's hand will write to me next, to say that the good and faithful servant has been called at length into the joy of his Lord. And why weep for this? No fear of death will darken St. John's last hour: his mind will be unclouded, his heart will be undaunted, his hope will be sure, his faith steadfast. His own words are a pledge of this - "My Master," he says, "has forewarned me. Daily He announces more distinctly,'Surely I come quickly!' and hourly I more eagerly respond,'Amen; even so come, Lord Jesus!'"
    Jane Eyre Books (Last Lines)
    There was no possibility of taking a walk that day. We had been wandering, indeed, in the leafless shrubbery an hour in the morning; but since dinner (Mrs. Reed, when there was no company, dined early) the cold winter wind had brought with it clouds so sombre, and a rain so penetrating, that further out-door exercise was now out of the question. I was glad of it: I never liked long walks, especially on chilly afternoons: dreadful to me was the coming home in the raw twilight, with nipped fingers and toes, and a heart saddened by the chidings of Bessie, the nurse, and humbled by the consciousness of my physical inferiority to Eliza, John, and Georgiana Reed.
