"Wisconsin, the Most Adventurous and Yet Level-Headed of States." The American Magazine 83, no. 2 (February 1917) : 37, 59.
[Baker (1870-1946) grew up in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, worked as a journalist and editor in Chicago, gained famed as a muckraker, wrote articles about the reform movement led by Robert M. La Follette, Sr., and won the 1940 Biography Pulitzer Prize for his eight-volume Woodrow Wilson : Life and Letters , published by Doubleday, Page, from 1927-1939.] "We who love Wisconsin knew that trouble was coming when the world suddenly woke up to the fact that here was a state interested not merely in cattle, corn, cheese, copper and pine timber, but in ideas, the 'Wisconsin idea,' and began to praise her for the excellence of her Government and the greatness of her university. It is a dangerous thing to be noted for ideas, especially in America, where we still carry such a reputation rather awkwardly." "Wisconsin is the least partisan, the most fearless-thinking of the states; and its most important contribution to the nation is its hard-wrought political and educational pioneering and experimentation."

Library Work. Library From the Encyclopaedia of Religion There were two articles in the EOR under "Demons" (4:282) which is what I checked first, since the index was in use. These were: Demons: An Overview, and Psychological Perspectives. There was some interesting information in the first article, beginning with the terms origins, in daimon/daimones, super human beings, in Greek mythology referring to both the gods (in Homer) and the souls of the Golden Age (in Hesiod) and later this term became a reference to lesser spirits or demigods. The term later became daemonium, referring to evil spirits who torment humans.
Other sources, from the index, which I did not have time to research, were:
    Exorcism: 3: 130, 552
    Demons: 4: 319-321
    Diabolic: 4: 320-321
Articles I located in Quest from the EOR are: The Devils of Loudun, by Aldous Huxley (BF1517 .F5 H8); Speaking in tongues: A Cross Cultural Study, by Felicitas D. Goodman (BL48 .G635 1988); Evil and the Love of God, by John Hick (BT160 .H5); Trance and Possession States, by Raymond Prince(HN110 .M63 P7); and Fabulous Beasts and Demons, by Heinz Mode (N7745 .A5 M6213).
    A search under "Demons" in Quest resulted in more possible sources, whose names I unfortunately did not record, only authors and call numbers. These were as follows: Christine Worobec (BF1555 .W795 2001); Stuart Clark (BF1584 .E9 C57 1999); Dorothy Dearborn (GR1135 .N4 D42 1994); Fyodor Dostoyevsky (PG3326 .B6 1994); Peter G. Beidler (PS2116 .T83 B39 1989); and Felicitas D. Goodman (BV5090 .T7 1982), (BL54 .G64).
