A Word About This Catalogue We specialize in the historical novel principally but not exclusively by American authors, or dealing primarily but not exclusively with an American theme and related items. So we have James Boyd’s LONG HUNT, which is set in the territory west of the Mississippi in 1800, as well as Derek Robinson's A PIECE OF CAKE, about the RAF in World War II. Most of the books cover a fairly finite historical event, such as Kenneth Roberts's RABBLE IN ARMS, which describes the Northern American Army in the early days of the Revolution. However, you will also find Hervey Allen’s ANTHONY ADVERSE, which covers several decades and a few continents. We define "historical novel" broadly. Some items listed here could as easily be called epics, sagas, or even romances. But the one constant is that these novels relate to historical events or times. This catalogue also lists a few historical works relevant to the periods covered by the novels. A word about the editions. Many books in the catalog are first editions in excellent or better condition. Because we offer books to the reader as well as to the collector, other editions are also listed, including book club editions. When the choice was between not listing a long out of print book, or including a nice book club or other edition, we have done the latter. We have not listed all the authors, titles, or editions that we have, so please ask about other historical novels that you are interested in.

48. EasyHomeschooling: Author's Biographies (Vintage And Classic)
(18621919) Joseph Altsheler was born in rural Kentucky where bookswere so scarce they were passed around from family to family.
http://www.easyhomeschooling.net/authors.html
Home Vintage and Classic Authors A-Z Only short excerpts may be used with this notice. Louisa May Alcott by Lorraine Curry (1832-1888) When she was two, Louisa May Alcott's family moved to Boston, where her father established a school (described in Little Men). He later attempted to start a religious and vegetarian community. Her mother was a "Boston lady of great culture and beauty" whose girls almost idolized her while she gently ruled and guided them. Her three rules: "Love yourself," "Love your neighbor," and "Do the duty which lies nearest you" surely influenced Louisa May. Horatio Alger Alger wrote 109 books between 1868 and 1898. For the Alger hero, wealth and success were rewards for duty, patience and resignation, not the result of struggle and competition, but gifts of Providence, chance, virtue, and good fortune. A writer for boys should have an abundant sympathy with them. He should be able to enter into their plans, hopes, and aspirations. He should learn to look upon life as they do. Boys object to be written down to. A boy's heart opens to the man or writer who understands him. Horatio Alger Joseph Altsheler by Jan Bloom, "Who Should We Then Read?"
