Allen, James (18641912), British-born American essayist, author of As a ManThinketh. The greatest achievements were at first and for a time dreams.

A B C D ... Z A Author Adams, John I believe there is no one principle which predominates in human nature so much in every stage of life, from cradle to the grave, in males and females, old and young, black and white, rich and poor, high and low, as this passion for superiority. Every human being compares itself in its own imagination with every other round about it, and will find some superiority over every other, real or imaginary, or it will die of grief and vexation.
Adler , Alfred Trust only movement. Life happens at the level of events not of words. Trust movement.
Adler , Stella Don't use your conscious past. Use your creative imagination to create a past that belongs to your characters.
Aesop Be content with your lot; one cannot be first in everything. Never trust the advice of a man in difficulties. Better to be wise by the misfortunes of others than by your own.
Aldiss, Brian (b. 1925), British science fiction writer. Whatever creativity is, it is in part a solution to a problem.

BEGINNINGS Dare to be wise; begin! He who postpones the hour of living rightly is like the rustic who waits for the river to run out before he crosses.
- Horace Set out wisely at first; custom will make every virtue more easy and pleasant to you than any vice can be.
- English proverb The beginning is the most important part of the work.
- Plato "Omnium rerum principia parva sunt." (Everything has a small beginning.)
- Marcus Tullius Cicero The greatest achievements were at first and for a time dreams. The oak sleeps in the acorn.
- James Allen (1864-1912), Writer. The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one.
- Mark Twain BEHAVIOR So live as if you were living already for the second time and as if you had acted the first time as wrongly as you are about to act now!" It seems to me that there is nothing that would stimulate a man's sense of responsibileness more than this maxim, which invites him to imagine first that the present is past and, second that the past may yet be changed and amended. Such a precept confronts him with life's finiteness as well as the finality of what he makes out of both his life and himself.

As A Man Thinketh
By James Allen (1864-1912)
"All that we achieve and all that we fail to achieve is the direct result of our own thoughts." As a Man Thinketh is a classic in the truest sense: few books have been so widely read, have stood the test of time so well, have had such an impact on generations of readers, and have carried such a simple, profound message: You are what you think. Og Mandino counted "As a Man Thinketh" among the top ten success books of all time. James Allen is something of an enigma: little is known of his life other than that he was born in Leicester, England, and spent his later years in Ilfracombe where he wrote over twenty books. Of these, "As a Man Thinketh" was by far the most successful, despite the author having felt that it was a minor work. In fact, it has remained in print for a century, has been translated into at least five major languages, and has influenced the lives of untold millions with its powerful message. If you like As A Man Thinketh and would like a printed version of it, you can get one from here:

Many people mistake thinking for reorganizing the thoughts they already have

much. He who attain highly must sacrifice greatly” (James Allen,18641912).
http://www.chris-brands.nl/uitspraken-c.htm
