He came to Polk County, Iowa from Ohio with his parents in 1836. In 1846, he married a Miss Garret. McCall worked in the real estate business while living in Des Moines and then Nevada, Iowa. In 1862, he joined the 32 nd Iowa Regiment as a quartermaster for the Civil War, and made captain in 1865. McCall was a leader in Story County republican circles; he was a member of the 9

It contains over 800 records from the Grayson County, Virginia death registers from 1853 to 1870. Original spellings have been retained as much a possible. There are without doubt transcription errors due to both difficulties in decipering handwriting and disconnects between brain and fingers. Also, accuracy of the entries in the register deteriorated significantly in the late 1860s. In the case of most slave deaths no surname was recorded and as a substitute the surname of the owner is shown in square brackets[].
