The following entries are for the most part arranged in alphabetical order. An exception to this occurs when two different last names appear in the same cemetery lot. Everyone on a lot is listed together. To aid in locating someone listed under a different surname, cross reference entries have been added.
The headstone readings listed on this site were taken in the mid-1960s and therefore do not contain burials after that time.

    Descendants of William Taylor
This Report was prepared by Robert Taylor Sr. - – from his research and that of his son, Robert Jr. who has done so much research on these families. They have spent a great deal of time searching out the many details and trying to track down the old Journal said to be in the family. They have also talked to many of the descendants of the Ala. family trying to obtain additional information. They have chosen to use William as the husband of Catherine Davis based on the family traditions in Ala.
By Robert Hugh Taylor Rt. 6 Box 378 Selma, Alabama 36701
The Taylor's came from Lenior County, North Carolina by way of South Carolina and Georgia following The Three Notch Trail into The Mississippi Territory in what became Southern Alabama where they would eventually settle in the area of the head waters of the Conecuh River. This area became known as Searight, Alabama. Leaving the settled area of North Carolina and going into the Mississippi Territory was a long difficult trip into an area of hostilities. In the early 1800's Indians were still hostile. The going was hard and rough.
There was a connection with the Taylor's and The Wall's. Wyley Donald Ward, Scott Smith and Marion Doby Taylor, list two of the Taylor girls who came to Alabama with Wendal and James Davis Taylor as married to two of the Wall's. I have a letter from Morgan D. Jones who interviewed Wendall in the late 1800's which states that two of the Taylor's married two of the Wall's, Absalom and Wright, Jr. I can not prove the connection at this time however the Taylor's and Wall's moved into the same area and settled on land next to each other in the Searight area. With this connection in mind here is the information about the Wall's entrance into the Mississippi Territory which according to records preceded the Taylor's.

    92. Historical Collection
Who was Oliver Optic? Why was “Peter Parley” (pseudonym of William TaylorAdams, 18221897) such a successful writer for 19th century youth?
Historical Collection (1820s) and (1840s) as well as a long run of , begun in 1873, which was widely subscribed to by American middle-class families. Notable is an extensive collection of over 700 British and American chapbooks, published between 1800 and 1850. Typically small format, 16 or 24 page unbound books, with neither the author nor the illustrator identified, these chapbooks were designed to sell cheaply or to be given out free. Often published by Sunday School societies and other groups promoting moral uplift, they generally contain stories intended to be inspirational as well as amusing. With these surviving chapbooks as evidence, students and scholars can try to fathom the impact on the minds of early 19th-century youth of such tales as The Pious Apprentice, or the Life of James Douglas (1824) or The Affecting Story of Mary Davis Return to Contents or go to

Scope and content The Scientists Collection is a miscellaneous assemblage of individual letters and small groups of correspondence of American and European scientists from the 17th through 20th centuries. The disciplines represented are varied, with significant depth in natural history, conchology, geology, and astronomy, and there are separate series for physicists (58 items, relating especially to Max Planck), and American-Russian scientific exchange prior to the Russian Revolution (46 items). The circle of Darwin and, more generally, of mid-19th century British natural historians, is also well represented in the Scientists Collection. Included in the collection are valuable letters from John Edward Gray, William Whewell, John Lubbock, and John Stevens Henslow, and there is a small set of letters from Robert Chambers, as well as a fascinating exchange between the publisher John Murray and the naturalist, Henry W. Bates, concerning publication of Bates'
