New Castle, IN South Mound Cemetery
Be it remembered , that on the 11th day of September, 1858, James A. McMeans, E. B. Martindale, Miles Murphey, Joshua Holland, James Ferris and forty other citizens of the county of Henry, and the State of Indiana, formed themselves into a Corporation, with a Capitol Stock of Three Thousand Dollars for the purpose of purchasing, owning, providing, and selling off suitable grounds for the Burial of the Dead in the vicinity of New Castle, IN, under the name of the NEW CASTLE CEMETERY ASSOCIATION. Being six acres of land purchased from Jacob and John Thornburg. And afterwards, at a meeting of the said board of directors, held on the 12th day of July, 1859, the said ground having been regularly laid out into blocks and lots, was named the SOUTH-MOUND CEMETERY.
Dr. Thomas D. Hamm compiled the following recordings in 1982 and 1985. A few of the stones were not completely readable due to the deterioration and age of the stone. This list of burials contains the names of those buried in the older sections, #s 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 13 and the free lots in those six acres of South-Mound cemetery. The present South-mound Cemetery Superintendent, Mr. Michael Brotezge, located the section and lot numbers in 2001 and 2002 and added those to the list of burials. Some of these stones could not be relocated upon trying to find the section and lot numbers, they will be noticed with an (?) as to section and lot numbers. Mr. U. E. Bush took the names, sections and lots information and entered this information into a database to sort and index the list by last name. As with every attempt to try to be as accurate as possible when doing cemetery recordings, this list may have some mistakes and not be completely perfect.

Brimley Bayview Cemetery
I walked this cemetery in May of 2000, while on vacation in Brimley. Did not have tombstone rubbing equipment with me at the time. When I return in September - I will take with me if anyone is interested in any of the broken stones. There are also other areas that I could not get into with stones. Lots that were fenced and totally overgrown and I will need to take proper clothing to work on them.
