Ecocities
An ecological city is a city in balance with nature. Cities are at the centre of nearly all human activity. If we fail to evolve human settlements in balance with nature, our civilisation will fail. With the ecological crisis now upon us, we are running out of time. Urban Ecology Australia is committed to the creation of ecological settlements before it's too late to make a difference. We can make ecocities here and now - in existing cities and new ones. Townhouse at Christie Walk
Christie Walk
Christie Walk is a medium density housing development located in downtown Adelaide which combines many ecologically sustainable and community enhancing features. Christie Walk was initiated by UEA as a demonstration project, to promote ecological human settlements by example. The B.S. in Ecology and Environmental Sciences is a science-based, interdisciplinary program for students interested in all aspects of ecology, conservation, and environmental protection. Ecology and Environmental Sciences is the University of Maine's oldest and most successful interdisciplinary program. Students majoring in the program are taught and advised by faculty from five academic units, including: Since faculty have active research programs, students not only have access to the most up-to-date information, but also get employment opportunities in their fields of study during the academic year and the summer months. The program is designed for students who wish to pursue professional careers in environmental protection, natural resource conservation, management, ecology, planning, research, or environmental advocacy. The degree can also be used in preparation for postgraduate study.

The Forum on Religion and Ecology is the largest international multireligious project of its kind. With its conferences, publications, and website it is engaged in exploring religious worldviews, texts, and ethics in order to broaden understanding of the complex nature of current environmental concerns. The Forum recognizes that religions need to be in dialogue with other disciplines (e.g., science, ethics, economics, education, public policy, gender) in seeking comprehensive solutions to both global and local environmental problems. Insects employ a variety of airborne chemical cues to find and identify resources. Our research is aimed at understanding the theoretical basis of these odor-mediated behaviors, and includes studies of: chemistry of the odors, odor dispersal by wind, orientation maneuvers of flying insects along odor plumes, electrophysiology coupled with plume characteristics at the insect/plume interface, heritability of pheromone blend variability, and modeling odor-tracking behaviors of insects. More information about each of these research areas is available using the "research" links. for questions or problems regarding this website, please contact the webmaster

Promoting locally based alternatives
to the global consumer culture The International Society for Ecology and Culture (ISEC) is a non-profit organisation concerned with the protection of both biological and cultural diversity. Our emphasis is on education for action : moving beyond single issues to look at the more fundamental influences that shape our lives. Our activities include:
  • Books, reports, conferences and films Local, national and international networking. Community initiatives. Campaigning.
We have worked in more than a dozen countries, from the UK and the USA to Thailand and Bhutan. Our programme in Ladakh, or 'Little Tibet', where we have been running a wide range of 'hands on' projects since 1975, has won international acclaim for countering the negative effects of conventional development in that region. ISEC has now established an 'Ancient Futures Network' to bring together groups and individuals from every corner of the world that are struggling to maintain their cultural integrity in the face of economic globalisation.

IOC HAB Programme Introduction A Joint SCOR-IOC Programme of International Co-operative Research on HABs in Marine and Brackish Waters GEOHAB Mission: Foster international co-operative research on HABs in ecosystem types sharing common features, comparing the key species involved and the oceanographic processes that influence their population dynamics. GEOHAB is a Plan for Co-ordinated Scientific Research and Co-operation to Develop International Capabilities for Assessment, Prediction and Mitigation The GEOHAB Strategy The approach of the GEOHAB Programme is comparative, from the cellular to the ecosystem level. GEOHAB fosters research that is interdisciplinary, focusing on the important interactions among biological, chemical, and physical processes. GEOHAB also fosters research that is multifaceted as the problems are complex and interactions and processes occur on a broad range of scales. Finally, GEOHAB research should be international in scope to encompass the global issues of HAB events.

About the Society Resources She Officers ... Letter from outgoing President, Jonathan Taylor The Society for Human Ecology (SHE) is an international interdisciplinary professional society that promotes the use of an ecological perspective in both research and application.
    SHE' s goals are to:
    • Provide a forum through which scientists, scholars, educators, and practitioners may exchange ideas and information. Promote the advancement of an ecological perspective in interdisciplinary studies and practice. Identify problems, discover their origins, examine possible solutions and their implications, and then make recommendations for implementing those solutions. Look ahead to the consequences of human action on our social, natural, and built environments. Build cooperative arrangements among human ecology programs and organizations throughout the world. Facilitate the exchange of this information throughout an international network of individuals interested in human ecology.
The Society holds regular conferences, conducts workshops and symposia, and
