STORY TOOLS Print This Government has initiated a new housing scheme known as the Access to Home Ownership Scheme that will see 260 flat units built in Harare and Norton starting in August this year. The scheme replaces the Pay for Your House Scheme, which suffered problems of poor financial management and low levels of contributions. Prospective homeowners need to pay a deposit of $12 million within six months to be allocated either a flat or house. The money would be paid through a building society and earns interest. The building societies would be expected to advance the balance in the form of loans to beneficiaries. The flats or houses built under the scheme cost $24 million.
