The Thunderbird Youth Academy (TYA) located in Pryor, Oklahoma is an Oklahoma National Guard run program to help "at risk youth". The program is designed to provide 16 to 18 year old (male or female) high school dropouts the opportunity to gain control over their lives. The program utilizes a "quasi-military" approach to teach self-discipline, improve self-esteem and physical fitness. Large picture of a Cadet Formation The academy is a 22 week residential course (at no cost to the cadet) followed by a 12 month mentoring program in their local community. While at the academy cadets learn life skills, work toward their GED, and set life goals that will enable them to be successful the rest of their lives. Programme Aims
