This group uses discussion sessions, outside sources (i.e., American Red Cross) and videos to facilitate learning. Health Education: Designed to educate children ages 6 to 10 about basic nutrition, exercise, and home safety (i.e., "911"). Gymnastics/Dance: Offered through the Lubbock Fine Arts, designed for the beginner and the advanced, these classes not only enhance athletic abilities, but teach self-confidence and self-esteem. Ages 6-18 are accepted. Power Hour: This program is for all ages and is offered four days a week from after school until 4:30 p.m. A staff member or volunteer is available to assist members with their homework. Also, members earn extra credit points and other awards for completing additional education-related assignments. A normal evening at this club would include instruction in the safe handling of firearms and training in basic rifle marksmanship with .22 caliber target rifles on National Rifle Association approved and registered shooting courses. There will be weekly shooting competitions that conclude with an award of Top Gun at the end of the year. This is all under the supervision of qualified firearms instructors from the Des Plaines Police Department and civilian helpers. Attendance at this club is limited to ensure proper safety of the participants. All required equipment is provided. There is a small additional fee for this club.
