144. Advocacy Institute - Making The Case: State Tobacco Control Briefing Papers
Papers from the advocacy Institute on preemption; treating tobacco dependence; counter advertising; secondhand smoke; youth access; special populations.
http://www.advocacy.org/publications/mtc/index.htm
Making the Case: State Tobacco Control Briefing Papers The Master Settlement Agreement reached in November 1998 created the potential for significant new investment in tobacco prevention and control. As state funding battles continue across the country today, tobacco control activists have an opportunity to create programs that can reduce the health, social and economic damage caused by tobacco products. With support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Advocacy Institute undertook a project to help state-level tobacco control advocates secure adequate funding for comprehensive tobacco control programs. "Making the Case: State Tobacco Control Policy Briefing Papers" is designed to facilitate discussion and analysis among tobacco control advocates, legislators and the public about the most effective way to secure funding for comprehensive tobacco control programs. It was adapted from the 1998 Health Science Analysis Project (HSAP), a series of papers that examined the public health impact of various aspects of federal tobacco legislation proposed in 1998. Positive Youth Development
Research shows one of the most important factors in helping youth remain drug and alcohol free is the presence of a meaningful relationship with a caring adult. In supporting today's busy families, WYSB offers programs which provide additional supportive relationships for the youth of our community. WYSB believes that fun and learning can go hand in hand. We sponser special interest groups such as Kids Care, a community service group, and Sisters Circle, a group for middle and high school age girls. Day trips, holiday events, concerts and the Waterford Week Car Show provide opportunities for families to enjoy time together at little or no cost. Call for the latest calendar of events.

Our efforts to advocate for improvement in that system lead us to recognize that improvement in the whole child and family services system is necessary. Welcome to CBIT
The Child Brain Injury Trust (CBIT) aims to improve the quality of life for all children and young people who have an acquired brain injury (ABI) and enable them to achieve their full potential. "CBIT makes people more aware, helping others to see the person and not the disability"
What is an acquired brain injury?
An acquired brain injury (ABI) is an injury to the brain that has happened since birth. It could be the result of an accident, illness such as an infection, stroke, tumour or poisoning. The injury can affect the way a person thinks, feels and behaves and can, but not always, affect them physically. The medical definition of ABI, from the 1996 Standards Manual and Interpretative Guidelines for Medical Rehabilitation produced by CARF, which has been adopted by the UK ABI Forum, is as follows: A non-degenerative injury to the brain that has occurred since birth. It can be caused by an external force or by metabolic derangement. The term 'acquired brain injury' includes traumatic brain injuries such as open or closed head injuries, or non traumatic brain injuries, such as those caused by strokes and other vascular accidents, tumours, infectious diseases, hypoxia, metabolic disorders (eg. Liver and kidney diseases or diabetic coma), and toxic products taken into the body through inhalation or ingestion
