XyEnterprise XML Web Services Powers Publishing Solution for LexisNexis UK
XyEnterprise, the leading developer of XML content management and enterprise publishing software, announced today that its XML Professional Publisher (XPP) Web Services technology has been deployed to support a sophisticated XML content management and publishing solution for LexisNexis UK. This solution supports LexisNexis UK in the seamless publishing and delivery of its well-known legal, tax and regulatory services and publications to a wide variety of customers and markets.
The XyEnterprise Web Services-based system, in production use for case reports, enables LexisNexis UK to deliver editorial content from their Content@ Content Management System (also provided by XyEnterprise) to Letterpart, a UK-based publishing services provider. Letterpart hosts the XPP application that composes the source XML data for final print and PDF publication. Through the Web Services interfaces, LNUK editors have the ability to proof, modify, and publish their documents in a browser from virtually any location. Letterpart is located in Reigate, Surrey. "XyEnterprise's XPP Web Services technology adds even more versatility to our XML-based publishing process, particularly for editors working in remote locations," says Phil Caisley, Editorial Systems Manager at LexisNexis UK. "Overall, the system allows us to produce our complex publications in a timely, cost-effective manner."

Media-Independent Publishing:
Four Myths about XML
Jon Bosak
Sun Microsystems
This article first appeared in IEEE Computer (Vol. 31, No. 10, October 1998, pp. 120-122). Called "the emerging technology of the year" after it was endorsed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), XML burst onto the scene in February, 1998. It was called the successor to HTML and, according to some, the future lingua franca for the exchange of structured data. As XML emerged from the obscurity of its W3C beginnings, it was perhaps inevitable that this new data format would begin generating misconceptions as fast as it has attracted enthusiasts. In this column, I'd like to head off some myths about XML before they become permanent misunderstandings.
MYTH 1: XML IS A CONSIPIRACY LED BY MICROSOFT
XML is a conspiracy, but not Microsoft's. In fact, XML was produced by a group of markup language experts organized by Sun Microsystems to develop a form of the venerable ISO standard, SGML, for use on the Web. The amazing thing about XML is that all of these people and organizations set aside personal and corporate agendas to cooperate in the construction of a genuinely open standard, driven entirely by user needs. These needs include:
  • Extensibility

View More In: Print Web Product Pages: iCPS Publishing Connections Inc. will be demonstrating its recently-released iCPS 2.11 (Internet Content Publishing Suite) at Seybold San Francisco (Quark Solutions Village - Booth #1235). For QuarkXPress documents, a client-server architecture or a stand-alone version is available. The system simplifies the task of pulling up the QuarkXPress pages one at a time and clicking on frames to identify components for extraction. A user can then simply point to a folder of files and let the system perform the XML or HTML translation automatically. During the conversion process, validation rules can be specified to ensure that the translated files maintain consistent quality. Publishing Connections Inc., located in Bethesda, Md., provides integration services to the publishing industry throughout the US and Canada. PCI is focused on the implementation of systems where content is created once and distributed to various media formats. The company developed a comprehensive software product suite, iCPS, to facilitate this content processing and translation. PCI maintains a very prestigious client base including The Washington Post, BusinessWeek, Gannett, InfoWorld, and Quebecor. For more information about our services and products please visit us at

Hi everybody Thx for ur replies about my question. But I still need more explanation plz. I'll try to be clearer. I have to use XML/XSL to publish a web site. I've got a well-formed, valid XML-file (exported file from a database with ASP). Suppose the contents is changing and that the display of each web page is different from the other. How can I build one XSL that is applied to all the XML docs to get all the web pages? Thx a lot Alia XSL-List info and archive: http://www.mulberrytech.com/xsl/xsl-list Current Thread

Web Publishing with WebObjects 5 and XSLT
By: Andrew Lindesay February 12, 2003 - 03:33 AM
This article is designed to help explain one way in which developers might use XSLT to process XML data using XSLT in order to facilitate web-publishing application development with WebObjects . The reader is assumed to be familiar with WebObjects and XSLT. This article is to be read in the context of WebObjects version 5.1 and JDK 1.3.1, although it should work in a similar fashion with WebObjects 5.2. Note that data used in this article is fictitious.
XML in Web Publishing
Data formatted in XML is structured, and can be used for a number of different ends. Using XSLT technology, you can "munge" XML data into other textual formats, and in particular, HTML. By using different "XSL" files, you can generate different pages from the same data. This is illustrated in figure 1, where some data about tramping in New Zealand is transformed using different XSL files into different-looking HTML pages.
Figure 1 You can perform XSLT processing utilizing the Component architecture within the WebObjects infrastructure. First, consider how a "Normal" WebObjects application works.

XML, Java, and the future of the Web
Jon Bosak, Sun Microsystems
Last revised 1997.03.10
Introduction
The extraordinary growth of the World Wide Web has been fueled by the ability it gives authors to easily and cheaply distribute electronic documents to an international audience. As Web documents have become larger and more complex, however, Web content providers have begun to experience the limitations of a medium that does not provide the extensibility, structure, and data checking needed for large-scale commercial publishing. The ability of Java applets to embed powerful data manipulation capabilities in Web clients makes even clearer the limitations of current methods for the transmittal of document data. To address the requirements of commercial Web publishing and enable the further expansion of Web technology into new domains of distributed document processing, the World Wide Web Consortium has developed an Extensible Markup Language (XML) for applications that require functionality beyond the current Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). This paper [0] describes the XML effort and discusses new kinds of Java-based Web applications made possible by XML.
