Integrated Geoscience Studies of the Greater Yellowstone Area
Integrated geoscience studies conducted by the USGS provide information that can be applied to the stewardship of the natural resources of Yellowstone National Park (YNP) and the Greater Yellowstone Area (GYA) (fig. 1). The studies include investigations of hydrothermal systems in relation to magmatic activity, caldera development, active faulting, fluid flow, ore-forming processes, and impacts on wildlife, plants, and climate. Additional studies include: using geophysics to understand the "plumbing" system of the Yellow-stone caldera, geothermal systems, and to help locate active faults; surveying the bottom of the northern part of Yellowstone Lake to complement ongoing studies of active hydrothermal vents and explosion craters; mapping surficial mineralogy and vegetation communities to show the distribution of white pine, which will be used to define bear habitat; and establishing a geochemical database to help evaluate the environmental health of YNP, including its wildlife, through time.

Index of Subjects
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) provides maps, reports, and information to help others meet their needs to manage, develop, and protect America's water, energy, mineral, biological, and land resources. In this capacity, the USGS in Wyoming works in partnership with more than 30 local, State, and Federal agencies and two Indian tribes. Local agencies include county and municipal agencies, natural resources agencies, and county and regional planning agencies. This Fact Sheet describes some of the current USGS activities in Wyoming.
Oil and Gas Resources
Several petroleum-resource projects are being conducted by the USGS in Wyoming. Among the most prolific petroleum-producing basins in the State are the Wind River and the Greater Green River. The USGS, in cooperation with the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), has been investigating the petroleum potential on Indian lands in the Wind River Basin and has provided the BIA and the Indian tribes with geologic information needed to determine that potential. USGS investigations indicate that the Greater Green River Basin may contain a vast, untapped supply of clean-burning natural gas. This gas, however, may be in low-permeability reservoirs from which production is often difficult.

It was admitted to the Union on July 10 In addition to being the first U.S. state to extend suffrage to women, Wyoming was also the home of many other firsts for U.S. women in politics. It had the first female court bailiff and the first female justice of the peace in the country. Wyoming was also the first state in the Union to elect a woman governor, Nellie Tayloe Ross in . Wyoming statutes, codes, and regulations are housed as part of the Wyoming reference collection. Wyoming, state, United States
Geography
Exactly rectangular in shape, Wyoming is traversed by the Rocky Mts., which angle south across the state from the northwest. East of the mountains is the rolling country of the Great Plains, a mile-high region covered with grasses and sagebrush and interrupted by the upward thrust of mountain ranges. In the center of the state is a stretch of unbroken high plain, across which the wagon trains rolled westward over the Oregon Trail . In the extreme northeast the low, wooded Black Hills give way to eroded badlands extending west to the banks of the Powder River, which wanders through some of the most famous cattle country in the United States. West beyond the Powder is tallgrass country that was the hunting ground of the Crow until the migrating Sioux pushed the Crow westward into the mountains. The Sioux fell in turn before the relentless advance of settlers, and today farms and ranches occupy this fertile and beautiful plains area. In SE Wyoming the higher tablelands are interrupted by the Laramie and Medicine Bow ranges. Across this region travelers to the Pacific coast made their way when wars with natives in the 1860s made the Oregon Trail hazardous. The railroad followed paths of these wagon trains when the Union Pacific laid its tracks along this more southerly course. In SW Wyoming is the natural gateway through the Rockies: the broad, grassy South Pass. Immediately north of the pass is the Wind River Range, reaching the highest elevation in the state at Gannett Peak. Still farther north rise the Gros Ventre and Absaroka ranges, and to the west, near the Idaho line, the glorious Tetons loom above a lake and valley country of renowned beauty.

Wyoming County, West Virginia
Word: Word Starts with Ends with Definition Wyoming County is a county Originally, the county was the land under the jurisdiction of a count (in Great Britain, an earl, though the original earldoms covered larger areas) by reason of that office. The term has since tended to represent a geographical unit of administration intermediate between the larger state or province, and the smaller township, municipality or district. However it can also be used to mean a geographic area, and this can generate much confusion, especially when boundaries used by government or postal deliveries change or do not coincide.
