The Prince Regent THE REGENCY PLUME Newsletter is your link to learning more about England's delightful Regency period, when a gentleman was a gentleman all the way down to his polished Hessians...and young ladies still blushed, especially if caught staring overlong at milord's buckram-padded shoulders, or Oh my! his thigh-covered inexpressibles! A Regency romance is romance at its most elegantentertainment of the first order. Whether sweet or sensual, a romp or a mystery, a Regency romance novel transports readers to a colorful time that exists no more, but which takes place in a fascinating world that still exists todayEngland! Most Regency romance authors have spent years researching this long-ago, though hardly forgotten, time period known as the English Regency. And we take great delight in creating fresh new charactersour heroes and heroineswhose lives freely intermingle with those of 'real-life' people like Beau Brummell, Lord Nelson, the Duke of Wellington, or even the Prince Regent. I became so engrossed in my study of the English Regency period, that in 1991, I began to publish a newsletter for other writers and Regency romance fans called THE REGENCY PLUME. THE REGENCY PLUME is now in its 13th year of publication with over 1000 subscribers from all over the world.

Hi…I write historical romance novels for Leisure books under the name Madeline Baker, and paranormal romances for Leisure LoveSpell under the name Amanda Ashley.
Someone told me that my readers might like to know a little about me….
I was born in California and I’ve lived here all my life. I started writing simply for the fun of it. I never had any intention of selling anything and, in fact, never told anyone I was writing until a friend of mine mentioned she was writing a book, and I found myself blurting out that I had written one, too. She asked to read it. I said, Oh, no. I couldn’t imagine letting anyone read what I’d written. However, eventually, I gave in and let her read my book. It was COMANCHE FLAME. She said it was very good, and that I should try to get it published. Encouraged by her praise, I let my best friend read it. She loved it and said it was just as good, if not better, than a lot of books she read. After considering their words, I decided to try and find a publisher.
Well, that was no easy task. I had no knowledge of the book business. My friend suggested I get a copy of Writer’s Market and look for book publishers, which I did. There began six years of sending out query letters, being asked for the manuscript, being rejected. Eventually, after 31 rejections, I sold a book. My first sale was the third book I had written and was called RECKLESS HEART. I’ve been writing ever since.

167. All About Romance: Write Byte With Virginia Kantra On Series Romance

http://www.likesbooks.com/wb29.html
Write Byte "You Can't Write That in a Category Romance! (March 21, 2001) When Linda Hurst asked if I would do a short column on "the serious (and often sad) subjects" that I deal with in my category books, my first response was "Oh, dear." I write romance, for crying out loud. My career is only five books old. The last thing I need is to be labeled as Virginia Kantra, the Depressing Category Book Writer. But then I saw that "depressing" and "category book" form an oxymoron, and I realized what Linda was getting at, and I cheered up and agreed to write this article. The first thing I need to make clear is that I have never set out to write about a sad or serious subject in my life. Yes, characters in my books for Silhouette Intimate Moments have dealt with the death, murder, or suicide of a spouse; with the hospitalization of a child; with addiction, with gang violence, with date rape and domestic abuse. But I don't set out to write stories about those things. I write stories about people, not issues. I glanced at my bookshelves, and favorite titles leapt out: Kathleen Korbel's

This site is best viewed using Microsoft Internet Explorer Sub-Genres Statistics Current Books ... Honor Roll of Bestselling Authors Two basic elements comprise every romance novel: a central love story and an emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending. A Central Love Story In a romance, the main plot concerns two people falling in love and struggling to make the relationship work. The conflict in the book centers on the love story. The climax in the book resolves the love story. A writer is welcome to as many subplots as she likes as long as the relationship conflict is the main story. An Emotionally Satisfying and Optimistic Ending Romance novels end in a way that makes the reader feel good. Romance novels are based on the idea of an innate emotional justice the notion that good people in the world are rewarded and evil people are punished. In a romance, the lovers who risk and struggle for each other and their relationship are rewarded with emotional justice and unconditional love.

    Romance Appeal
From an article in the Post The appeal is the emotional drama of courtship both in life and on the page. A romance novel should compel the reader's emotional response. The author should be speaking the language of the heart at a heightened emotional pitch. The rest of the article is a review of four hardcover romances, but the above quote represents something I must remember. I've got the suspense angle down in Profile in the Dark , but I must make sure that when I write these chapters, the romance is as strong. Category: Writing Permalink

    180. Why Not Write Sensual Romance?
Why Not Write Sensual romance? by Lori Foster. Life should be enjoyed. To write about a romance any romance without sex, isn t honest.
    http://www.eclectics.com/articles/sensuous.html
    Why Not Write Sensual Romance?
    by
    Lori Foster
Life should be enjoyed. Every day, every hour, every minute. And that means using all our senses; taste, touch, smell and sight. If we're not doing that, we're missing out on a lot.
Our bodies were created with the instinctive need to indulge our senses. And the most intense, explosive feeling of physical pleasures come through sex. So, why shouldn't that carry through in our writing?
People say money makes the world go 'round. They're wrong. It's sex. Or sex appeal or sensuality or that little touch and look that makes your heart pound, your body heat. It really does happen. It's not something we make up to entice people into buying our books. It's a vital, fundamental part of basic nature. When all is said and done, we're animals. Human animals, with refined senses. Which only means we feel that much more, with much more definition.
To write about a romance any romance without sex, isn't honest. To create a hero and heroine who aren't driven to touch and explore each other is cowardly and a cop-out. Why do so many romance writers shy away from the realities of the bedroom?
In today's world, caution rules, which only makes the romance novel more enthralling. Readers can find hot, sizzling, romantic sex through their favorite characters. Fantasy is just that: fantasy. But it is important to our lives all the same.
