141. Kindergarten Readiness
Provides a packet of reading, writing, and math assessments as well as teaching suggestions to prepare young children for kindergarten
http://www.kindergartenreadiness.net
Welcome to the Kindergarten Readiness Web Site! Kindergarten Readiness specializes in preparing young children for kindergarten. Studies show that early schooling has enormous benefits. When engaged in a good readiness program, those children are less likely to need special-education services and more likely to graduate. After leaving school, they are more likely to be employed and less likely to be on welfare. “Helping all children start school ready to learn is critical to their future success and to the well-being of society as a whole. Children who start school behind their peers are unlikely to catch up. Children who enter kindergarten with limited word reading skills are the most likely to develop later reading difficulties and require remedial education.” - Research and Policy Committee of the Committee for Economic Development Help your child start school ready to learn! The Kindergarten Readiness Guide is designed to teach all parents how to work one-on-one with their preschool children to best prepare them for kindergarten. Kindergarten Readiness offers:
  • A 52-page book containing:

Writing children's picture books
Have you ever wanted to write a children's picture book? Learn how to write original, engaging picture books.
So youd like to write a childrens picture book, but you dont know where to start? Picture books are wonderful, visually engaging exercises for children. Read the following article to learn how to write original picture books. bodyOffer(30611) In general, picture books are 30-34 pages long. Publishers often state that they must be 32 pages, so this is a good estimation. Not all of this space needs text. The entire picture book can be pictures, or pictures can be mixed with text throughout. An ideal book is one with pictures on both pages of an open book, and writing on at least one page. When writing a picture book, it is wise to avoid poetry, and instead attempt to write lyrical language. This is because publishers rarely accept poetry from other than a select group of writers. When submitting a picture book, it is not advised to also submit illustrations. Publishers often provide an illustrator after revising a book. Picture books exist in three categories: 2-6 years, 6-10 years, and 10 and up. When writing, its wise to set your ideas down carefully first on paper in an outline to determine which audience you are writing for. Several gradations exist of this genre. A classic picture book contains only picture. Contemporary picture books contain text and writing that complement each other. There are occasional variations from this format, in special cases.

That column runs every other month and it looks like it'll be a hoot. For this month's grammar tip scroll to the bottom of this page. It's a handy hint for dealing with a problem writer face frequently. Don't you want to know? The Checklist looks at figurative language. You'll learn the technical name of some creative bits that children's writers do all the time. See if you can fit these things into your next soccer mom get together and watch their eyes glaze over. The Computer Help for this month looks at websites. It's the first in a series designed to help those considering launching into website design.

Site Mission Stories can teach us a lot about the writer, their close society, the world they live in, much of which the writer may not even be aware of. But they also teach us, the reader by our reactions and feeling towards the pieces, about ourselves, about our society about our world however different from that of the writer. It is only when read and interpreted by others that the true meaning can be extrapolated by the writer, it is only via this process that the writer can discover new ways of expressing their meaning. I want to encourage this process, to use my reactions to assist others to develop. You are being re-directed to the appropriate site for your browser... Thank you for your patience.
