Childrens painting and drawing about the earthquake
The Turkey Research Centre translated a series of essays by Turkish schoolchildren about the August 17 1999 earthquake that killed some 18,000 people in Yalova, Izmit, Golcuk and Adapazari areas of Turkey. Since these essays were written, another earthquake in the nearby area around Bolu and Duzce on November 12th has killed another 800 people and left thousands homeless, some for the second time. The childrens' essays give an idea of the impact of the disaster. In response to many requests, we have now added to this site photographs taken during visits to the earthquake area by Turkey Research Centre volunteers. We hope to add more childrens' pictures soon. The writing of children of the Secret . By Carl Trinkwon. The songs you hear on Cowboys Secrets are large experiences in my life
http://www.vachss.com/guest_dispatches/trinkwon.html
The Writing of "Children of the Secret" By Carl Trinkwon I discovered every week that my clients were keeping deep secrets. Things would surface in our session talk. Incidences of past abuse would come out into the open. Physical Abuse was the most common. Violent behavior was taught to my clients mostly by their fathers. Emotional Abuse, like being made to feel stupid and unworthy, was also very common. And Sexual Abuse...and it is very hard for a man to make a disclosure like this...if they tell, it confirms they are queer...if they suppress, maybe it never really happened. But I did have men make this disclosure to me and I have to honour them for their bravery. It does not surprise me at all that some of them turn predatory but most don't. They are the scar-carrying members of a vast tribe that a man has named the "Children of the Secret." During this period of time I received a package in the mail from Dark Horse Comics in which was enclosed "Down Here," an authorized magazine about children's advocate and crime novelist Andrew Vachss. Also enclosed was a copy of "Hard Looks,"

Shared Reading and Writing
Directing the Tour Through Text
By Cathy Corrado Cathy Corrado, MS, teaches deaf and hard of hearing second through fifth graders in Birney Elementary School, in Tacoma, Washington. She welcomes comments about this article to: cscorrad@psed.org
Shared Reading and Writing
Adults and students read a book repeatedly, helping students develop confidence in their ability to read. Students re-read the story, act it out, and make a new version of the book. "Using shared reading and writing is like being a tour director," says Rhonda Burden, a colleague who works in my school. "The teacher leads the class through the text, pointing out areas of interest while making personal connections and modeling how people can connect with a book." With my second through fifth graders, I am the tour director. Together my students and I read and re-read the text many times. We look for main ideas, predict what will happen in the storyline, and use the cloze procedure. At the same time, I teach reading strategies and the basic concepts needed to decode print. As my students and I collaborate, I make sure the atmosphere remains relaxed. I want my classroom to be a welcoming place where efforts and approximations are encouraged. During shared reading, students are invited to read silently by themselves or to sign along with me. Students break into small groups, based on their needs and abilities. Small groups facilitate the development of skills and processes that students can apply in their reading and writing throughout their lives.

The Bahá’í Communities of Skye
A portrait of a small island Baha’i community.
Welcome to the web site of the Bahá'í Communities of Skye. Compared with many in the UK, this is a relatively young community, with its first declaration being as recent as November 1989. Like many communities, it has had its crises and victories, sometimes growing, numerically and spiritualy, and then pulling back only to advance again. These few pages are designed to give the reader an insight into the make-up and activities of this small island community comprising less than 20 adults but with many youth and children.

"Suffer (allow) the children to come unto me, and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of God." Mark 10:14KJV Where do we as adults fail this command of Jesus? By not teaching our children about Him, hence, leaving them without any knowledge of our King. Without providing them knowledge we are forbidding them a passage to the kingdom. We must be an aurora for their paths. WHAT CAN WE DO? You might be asking how you can help out in such a violent world today when some parents just simply don't care. Perhaps you say, "is this not the parents job?" Let me ask you this:: Was it Jesus's JOB to suffer and die for us? For sure not, He did it because of His love for us. We need to have love like Jesus had and has. Yes, parents need to raise their children biblically. However, when they don't, and whether you have your own children or not, you need to look deep into the heart of a neighborhood child or teen. Pray about it and let Christ
