Social worker offers inside look at child protection by Kristine Berey As Rae Tucker Rambally sits in her tiny upstairs office during our interview, her little granddaughter crawls up in her lap. We continue discussing Practice Imperfect: Reflections on a Career in Social Work, the book she has written chronicling her 40-year career in this field. As she soothes the wriggling child, effortlessly moving from adult conversation to baby talk and back, the little girl pats her hair and laughs, blissfully unaware of how loved, how safe and how tremendously fortunate she is. Her grandmother pulls her just a little closer. Knowing how the present came into being holds the key to future change. Through the telling of her story, including her doubts and difficulties, Rambally hands this key to future young social workers. Rambally is particularly concerned about policies such as Permanency Planning or the Youth Protection Act, that, while irreproachable on paper, can have devastatingly negative consequences when applied irresponsibly or with ignorance. Black youth continues to be over-represented in the system.

Using Modern Language Association (MLA) Format
Brought to you by the Purdue University Online Writing Lab MLA style also specifies guidelines for formatting manuscripts and using the English language in writing and also provides a writers with a system for cross-referencing their sourcesfrom their parenthetical references to their works cited page. This cross-referencing system allows readers to locate the publication information of source material. This is of great value for researchers who may want to locate your sources for their own research projects. The proper use of MLA style also shows the credibility of writers; such writers show accountability to their source material. Most importantly, the use of MLA style can protect writers from accusations of plagiarismthe purposeful or accidental use of source material by other writers without giving appropriate credit. All guidelines for MLA style are in the MLA Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing (2nd edition). If you are asked to use MLA format for a research paper, the book to consult is

Dear Brothers, Friends and Masonic Associates,
Allow me first to thank you all for your support, interest and contributions to the American Mason. Wor. Bro. Boracci would be happy to know of the depth of response and fraternal kinship that has been given to him and the American Mason at this troubled time.
We at Wamponamon Lodge #437 will keep this site active and up to date. We intend to continue Wor. Bro. Boracci's forays into the esoteric, historical and practical applications of Freemasonry. There will be some time delay as we come up to speed, collect material, edit the same and become journalists. We encourage you to stay tuned, contribute material and continue the search for more light.
This website was the brainchild and life of Wor. Bro. Boracci. He worked full time to make it worthy of being associated with the Craft. We can only step into his shoes, hope not to stumble and continue his dance with the love of his life. So Mote It Be.
In addition to the website, the Officer's and Brethren of Wamponamon Lodge, have begun work on the "Andrew Boracci Memorial Library of Masonic Research". This library will house the collections of Wor. Bro. Boracci's books, articles, photos, pamphlets and electronic media. We are accepting donations to the library in the nature of financial assistance and artifacts. We feel that Bro. Andy began the work and we should continue it for the benefit of the Fraternity. It will be housed in our Lodge, the Sage house of 1845 in Historic Sag Harbor, and be available for research and the enlightenmentt of our Brethren.

Electronic Press Releases
The Care and Feeding of The Press: A guide for press relations staff (or those who play them on TV
Written by Esther Schindler, for the Internet Press Guild, this article is arguably the definative online guide for dealing with journalists. Ms. Schindler explains in a no-holds-barred way how journalists feel about receiving press releases, what to include in your release and how to approach a journalist for follow-up or after a review of your product has been published.
Good Release Bad Release
This article first appeared in the electronic marketing magazine'Who's Marketing Online' and covers the differences between paper and electronic press releases and common errors in press releases. The article is most memorable for its examples of 'Good, Bad, and Awful' press release writing. Press Release Tips for PR People Andrew Kantor wrote this article while Senior Editor of Internet World in 1995. The article covers e-PR basics like knowing the name of a journalist, paying attention to publication lead time, rules about follow-up calls and the importance of sending targeted press releases about news that a magazine actually covers.

John Harvard's Journal Creating Community, On-line and Off The weeks leading up to Thanksgiving were especially busy for Harvard bloggers. Meanwhile, one particularly prolific commentator, known on-line only as The Redhead, waxed wistful about single life. "How is it that some people find their soulmates (if there is such a thing) at 16?" she mused one bleak November afternoon. "Where are all the beautiful souls in this city (they're too young, or they're married, or they're smokers, or they're in love with someone else)? There's no justice in the universe." Welcome to Weblogs at Harvard Law, an experimental community where more than 350 students, faculty and staff members, and alumni have signed up to publicly express their thoughts about everything from social issues to software, from literature to love. Based at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society, the initiative is free and available to anyone with a Harvard.edu e-mail address. And except for a few private blogs limited to specific classes, all Harvard-hosted blogs can be read by anybody on the Web. Harvard's blogging project stems from a November 2002 conference, sponsored by the Berkman Center, to examine the University's "digital identity." Provost Steven E. Hyman challenged those present to use the Internet to unify their famously decentralized institution, building bridges among isolated departments and schools. "The question became how we could set up the different parts of Harvard to talk to each other better," says center director John Palfrey '94, J.D. '01. Participants also hoped to create exciting new on-line communities and fresh ways to use technology in teaching.
