College Sports Television (CSTV) executives came to Colorado Springs, Colo. to celebrate their relationship with the U.S. Olympic Committee and the local cable outlet Adelphia. Although all of the college and Olympic sports were the focus of the visit, wrestling took center stage in this celebration.
The story line for the night was that CSTV was in town to celebrate its new series, U.S. Olympic Pursuit, which is a regular feature on the new 24-hour college sports network. In addition, the local cable outlet Adelphia had also made a commitment to putting CSTV on the air for the Pikes Peak region.
However, for some reason, wrestling kept coming up all evening.
For instance, when a person first showed up, running on a television monitor was a tape of the recently broadcast Sunkist Kids International Wrestling Championships freestyle finals, the first Olympic sports event on the new U.S. Olympic Pursuit series. The well-publicized match between Olympian Melvin Douglas and college star Steven Mocco was all over the TV screens.
A number of Olympic hopeful athletes were there to support CSTV and its decision to broadcast a variety of college and Olympic sports. Among those meeting fans, signing autographs and making public statements were Greco-Roman wrestlers Kevin Bracken and Ethan Bosch, and freestyle wrestler Dawid Rechul.

WRESTLING
T he sport of wrestling is one of the oldest and greatest sports. It most likely found its beginnings in prehistoric times as a means for survival and territorial rites. It is great because of the fact that it puts man against man or even man against beast, with only their cunning, strength, skill, and endurance to get them through the struggle . This great struggle called wrestling has been developed in many cultures or civilizations from ancient times to the present. Each different culture has developed its own styles and techniques Greek literature points out that the skill of wrestling was utilized by gods and kings , as well as by soldiers and private citizens , in their efforts to triumph over ignorance evil , and brute force . Most of the heroes of Greek mythology, like Hercules , were depicted as skillful wrestlers. Their appreciation of skill most likely led to its introduction as a major sport in the Olympic Games in the year 704 B.C. Before 704 B.C. wrestling was an event of the pentathlon. Legend says that wrestling began because of the great wrestling match between Zeus and his father Cronus . They were wrestling for possession of the earth. Zeus won and took over the peaks of the earth. In the valley, where the

Women's Wrestling Reaches Olympics Run Date: 05/21/04 By Dakota Smith
WeNews correspondent With the introduction of women's wrestling in the Olympicsthe only new sport to be added to this summer's gamesthere is hope among women and wrestling coaches that the sport will receive more attention at both the high school and college level. (WOMENSENEWS)Beginning today, about 60 young female wrestlers from across the country will compete in the Olympic trials in Indianapolis. For wrestlers vying for one of the four slots on the U.S. Olympic women's wrestling team, the chance to compete in Athens this August has been a long time coming. "I expected it to be in the 2000 games," says Tina George, a 25-year-old wrestler from Cleveland. "I was surprised that it wasn't, but I knew it would happen one day." At 5 feet, 121 pounds, George has competed in six women's World Championships, winning two silver medals. A Specialist in the U.S. Army and a member of the Army's World Class Athlete Program, she is currently training for the Olympic trials in Los Angeles. "I think that I like the sport because I'm kind of power hungry," she says with a laugh. "The nature of wrestling is forcing your will upon someone else. As young girls we're not taught to be aggressive. I like that fact that we can be physical and aggressive and still be women."

"It's been my dream since I was really young," says Marano, "ever since I started wrestling at 5." Women's wrestling has long been accepted in other countries, but Americans have been slow to warm to the idea. The young women who wrestle hope to change that cultural prejudice. "Women have a natural ability to go out and be aggressive when you have to be," says Toccara Montgomery, another Olympic hopeful, adding, "I think a lot of people sell us short on that issue." Popularity Contest Right now, there are six colleges in the United States that offer women's varsity wrestling. At California's Menlo College, the men and women work out together, because of limited funding and facilities. But there are, of course, differences. The men have more upper body strength, while the women compensate with agility. And that's not all, says wrestling coach Sara Fulp-Allen. She thinks the women who choose this male-dominated sport "have a lot of intensity, a lot of movement and a lot of adrenaline."

http://www.cooldudesandhotbabes.com/angle.html
Kurt Angle captured national attention in 1996 when he won the 220-pound freestyle wrestling competition at the Olympic Games in Atlanta. And the extraordinarily proud Angle some would say conceited surely won't let anyone forget about it!
When the crowd has the audacity not to cheer for him, Kurt wonders aloud how anyone can boo an Olympic gold medalist. In 2000 Angle's first full year in World Wrestling Entertainment the Pittsburgh native had probably the best rookie campaign in history. After winning the European and Intercontinental titles, Kurt took 2000 King of the Ring crown. Then, in October, he won the WWE Championship, defeating The Rock at No Mercy. The momentum did not stop in 2001. Angle won the WWE Championship for a second time beating Stone Cold Steve Austin in Angle's hometown as well as the WCW Title. Whether the crowd is chanting "Angle! Angle!" as they did that night in Pittsburgh, or, more likely, "You suck! You suck!" there's no denying Kurt Angle's accomplishments. When it's all said and done, Angle could go down in history as the greatest of all time. Oh, it's damn true! Kurt Angle was born on December 9, 1968. He has four older brothers and one sister. His father, David Angle, a construction worker, died when Kurt was 16. He grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and graduated in 1987 from Mount Lebanon High School. Kurt's tattoo is of his high school mascot.

UT coach values connection to swimming and its virtues 07:33 PM CDT on Saturday, May 15, 2004 By CATHY HARASTA / The Dallas Morning News He has but two. Eddie Reese, the veteran University of Texas men's swimming coach, has enjoyed profound success. So it's hard to fathom that he'd look back with any trace of wistfulness. But if he had one thing to do over again, he said he might have skipped serving as assistant coach of the U.S. Olympic men's swimming team at the 1996 Atlanta Games. "I wanted to be a TV announcer," said Reese, who will be the U.S. men's head coach at August's Athens Olympics. "Then I could have convinced parents to put their kids in swimming for the values it teaches. Swimmers are special. I would love to get the personalities out there." "We do all the old-fashioned things and the soon-to-be-forgotten things," said Reese, who has coached at UT since 1978. "I try to find a way to get everybody to go faster.
