Welcome to the Second Infantry Division Photo Web Pages!
Sponsored by Friends of the U.S. Second Infantry Division, World War II The Friends of the U.S. Second Infantry Division are a group of folks who are interested in events that happened during world war two, especially in events that happened to the U.S. Second Infantry Division fighting in the European Theatre of Operations (ETO). These men saved the world. And it is to these men that this website is dedicated with our appreciation. But you do not have to be a veteran of World War II to join us. Many of us are friends and relatives of a World War II 2nd Div. vet. Or you just may have an interest in that war. You are welcome to join us. You can become a member by joining our www.egroups.com website dedicated to the 2nd Div. vets of WWII. Membership is free and you can find our site thru a link in one of the following pages. Note: If you like war stories then I recommend you look at our links section here. We have an active web site where info and discussions take place at yahoogroups.com. You may be a combat veteran of WWII or a relative of a man who was one. You are most welcome to share, ask questions, and participate with others. All I ask is that you do not hurt or embarrass someone else. A lot of veterans still carry a deep wound and reliving the pain of those days is like ripping a scab off of a healing wound. They went through a lot for our sakes on the battlefield and we owe each one a great debt for his courage, self sacrifice, and willingness to lay down his life on our behalf.

WORLD WAR II: ALLIANCE
Despite deep-seated mistrust and hostility between the Soviet Union and the Western democracies, Nazi Germany's invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941 created an instant alliance between the Soviets and the two greatest powers in what the Soviet leaders had long called the "imperialist camp": Britain and the United States. Three months after the invasion, the United States extended assistance to the Soviet Union through its Lend-Lease Act of March 1941. Before September 1941, trade between the United States and the Soviet Union had been conducted primarily through the Soviet Buying Commission in the United States. 57. Deliverance It Has Come; WWII POW Diary 1942-1945; Los Banos
Biography of an American missionary who continued his work after imprisonment by the Japanese during world war ii.
http://www.geocities.com/ithascome/
Dedication This site is in loving memory of Herman Knight Beaber who was born on May 25,1907 (related to Betsy Ross - First American Flag maker 1776). He attended college for two years at the University of California, he studied chemistry and electrical engineering. He left college and entered into the ministry in 1929.
In late 1941 war broke out in the Philippines with the Japanese. Many endured imprisonment, including some ministers who were interned at the Los Baños Internment camp located about 40 miles south of Manila in the Philippines. They were Willie Jamieson from Chirnside, Scotland; Ernest Stanley from England (internment at Santo Tomás); Leo Stancliff of Bakersfield, California; Cecil Barrett of New Zealand; and Herman Beaber of Hydesville, California, who kept a diary during their time as prisoners of war (1942-1945). Liberating Los Baños At Los Baños they were assigned their barracks (a shelter with outer walls made of bamboo mat - called sawali ). At first the camp was a delightful spot. There were four hundred and fifty: priest, nuns, single men and women missionaries, and a few families with children. They were separate from the others that were in the camp before. They kept busy with all kinds of work such as cutting grass and brush, sanitation squad, barbering, gardening and cooking in the camp kitchen. As time passed and as the Japanese began to lose the war, things became very desperate at the Los Baños prison camp. While Herman Beaber's diary does not record that they were tortured, they nearly starved, and many in the camp died from disease and slow starvation. Herman wrote in his diary... "Naturally there is theft of food in camp. It is considered a major crime. We see people (respectable people) looking into garbage cans for banana skins, etc. (If you want a real delicacy... Fry some banana skins in rancid coconut oil.) People going to points in camp several blocks away will have to sit down to rest. Fights occur in the food lines. Some have eaten bugs and beetles - so they say."

C.O.R.E Mod Mothers Day Reported May 12, 2004 by Tactics My mother told me something about the origin of Mother's Day yesterday that just blew my mind. I always assumed that Mother's Day was just another contrived holiday created and promoted by greeting card companies, since most of them are. As it turns out, though, Mother's Day was first suggested in 1872 by Julia Ward Howethe same woman, ironically, who wrote the words to the Battle Hymn of the Republic. After the horror of the Civil War, it was her idea to celebrate the day as a holiday of peace. On Mother's Day, you were supposed to wear a red carnation if your Mother was alive, and a white carnation if she was dead. Mom said that when she was a kid, people still wore the carnations. So if you're sending your Mom flowers for Mother's Day, you might want to avoid sending white ones.
