Company B, 16 th Tennessee Infantry
Introduction: Robert C. Carden was born in Coffee County, Tennessee on July 4, 1843, the youngest of the five children of Reuben and Sarah (nee' Henry) Carden. On May 23, 1861, he enlisted in the Confederate Army at Manchester, Tenn. He served in Company B of the 16th Tennessee Infantry until January of 1865. He, and the 16 th Tennessee fought at Perrysville, Murfreesboro and Chickamauga and from there to Lovejoy Station below Atlanta. This soldier was wounded at Perrysville and Nashville. Clippings (not all dated) which appeared in the paper before his articles: May 30, 1911 B.H. Carden, who lives on the Tom Clark place in Adamson Grove, is enjoying a visit from his father, R. C. Carden of Manchester, Tennessee, who is here for a visit until after the 4 th of July. Comrade Carden was a confederate soldier in Co. B, 16 Tennessee Infantry and served during the entire war. He is a typical southern soldier and gentleman. While in town Saturday with his son, he met a number of the old "Yankee boys" against whom he bravely fought during the four years of the war, and between them there was a lively exchange of friendly yarns, interesting to themselves and to the younger generation who gathered around them. We hope Comrade Carden's first visit in the north will prove one of the happiest experiences of his life.

66. War Of 1812 - Battle Of North Point - Methodist Meeting House
This building was known as the Battle Ground MethodistEpiscopal Church, which was occupied by General Stricker the night preceding the Battle of North Point and was used as a hospital by both armies, during and after the the battle which took place on September 12, 1814.
http://www.bcpl.net/~etowner/npstop7.html
Virtual Tour Stop #7 - Methodist Meeting House After the Battle of North Point, the British commander did not press his attack on the withdrawing Americans. This battle being complete, the injured were taken to a local Methodist church where surgeons worked through the night. An unusual point is that casualties from both armies were treated together in the same field 'hospital'. At that time, prisoners where held only until they could be exchanged for an equal number of enemy prisoners. General Stricker, therefore, did not abandon his injured, leaving them with the British. The British, who had decided to encamp for the night, were ill prepared. As a cold September rain began to fall, they did their best to keep themselves and their muskets dry, as they had left their coats and tents back at the landing site on North Point. General Stricker ,"After proper deliberation", chose to withdraw his battle weary troops once again, closer to the defenses of Baltimore. Today, only a few stones of the foundation of the Methodist Meeting House remain visible. The site of this impromptu field hospital is marked with a large stone monument.

War between Iran and Iraq , lasting from 1980 to 1988.
The background for the war was disagreements on the borderline between the two countries, stemming back to 1971, when Iran occupied a couple of Iraqi islands in the Persian Gulf near the outlet of Shatt El Arab . Iraq was also objecting the Islamist propaganda that was transmitted from Iran to Iraq, and Iraq's government feared that there could be a revolution among the Iraqi Shi'is in the south. In 1980 Iraq expected that Iran was weak after the Iranian Revolution, so that Iraq would face little resistance when occupying Iranian territory. Saddam Hussein 's ambitious plans for developing Iraq to a halt. During the war Iraq enlarged its military forces from 250,000 to 1,250,000, and adjusted the infrastrucutre of the country to the needs of the military. To a large degree, was this the precondition for the next war: the invasion of Kuwait and the following attack from the international forces. HISTORY Settlement on frontiers between Iran and Iraq that involved increased territory for Iran compared to the borders prior to 1971.

Portraits The French and Indian War (1754-1760) is replete with incidents of scalping by French, English and Native American combatants. Newspapers, diaries, journals, and other period sources all document these occurrences. Scalping, of course, predated the mid-eighteenth century. Historical records, archaeology, and other sciences strongly indicate the practice originated among certain Native American tribes.1 A French soldier, identified by the initials J. C. B., related in his memoirs that "this horrible custom was practiced by these savages alone, and sprang from their own barbarism, for it seems never to have existed in any other nation, not even among nations, who, like them, have never received any idea of civilized life."2 While Europeans did not originate scalping, they did encourage its spread through the establishment of bounties. J. C. B. writes that "the French and English were accustomed to pay for the scalps, to the amount of thirty francs' worth of trade goods. Their purpose was then to encourage the savages to take as many scalps as they could, and to know the number of the foe who had fallen."8

The Florida State Archives has digitized its collection of Confederate pension records with over 13,000 pensions available online.
Florida played an active, if less than prominent, role in the American Civil War. Once derisively called the "Smallest Tadpole in the Dirty Pool of Secession," Florida had joined the Union only fifteen years before its January, 1861 secession, and the state's population was the smallest by far of any in the Confederacy. Florida nonetheless provided an estimated 15,000 troops for Confederate service, as well as several thousand black and white Union volunteers. The state's coastline harbored blockade runners and Florida beef, pork, sugar, molasses, and salt helped feed the armies of the South. A number of military engagements occurred in the state, most importantly the February 20, 1864 battle of Olustee, which ended in a decisive Confederate victory. At the close of the war, Tallahassee was the last state capital east of the Mississippi River to remain in Confederate hands.
The Florida State Archives maintains a number of collections documenting Florida's role in the War Between the States, as well as some material from other states. Listed in this pamphlet are the most significant of these collections.
