The Whole World Was Watching:
an oral history of 1968 The Whole World Was Watching: an oral history of 1968 is a joint project between South Kingstown High School and Brown University's Scholarly Technology Group. The project was sponsored by the Rhode Island Committee for the Humanities and NetTech: the Northeast Regional Technology in Education Consortium. The resource contains transcripts, audio recordings, and edited stories of a series of interviews conducted in the spring of 1998. Members of the Sophomore Class at SKHS interviewed Rhode Islanders about their recollections of the year 1968. Their stories, which include references to the Vietnam War, the struggle for Civil Rights, the Assassinations of Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy as well as many more personal memories are a living history of one of the most tumultuous years in United States history. In order to make the site as useful as possible to secondary educators, as well as to scholars, the project includes a glossary (glossary terms used on any page are linked from the bottom of that page), timeline, and bibliography of references for 1968 and the period in which it is embedded. help feedback

Post-Yugoslav States. Budapest, Hungary, October 1999 A Paper by: Lepa Mladjenovic, Autonomous Women's Center Against Sexual Violence and Women in Black Against War, Belgrade, Serbia THE POLITICS OF KNOWLEDGE OF DIFFERENCE: thoughts and contradictions in feminist politics in the anti war movement in Belgrade from '91 to '99
Short Introduction: "Good Girls go to heaven, bad girls to LJUBLJANA" was the title of the Fourth Yugoslav Feminist Meeting which was held in May 1991 in Ljubljana, in Slovenia. The organizers at that moment could not think of the depth of the possible meaning of "hell and heaven" in the context of pain that will devastate many women across the homeland in the next years of war and fascism. At that time, in '91, in the state now called Ex Yugoslavia there were 22 million of inhabitants, 21 language spoken, 25 ethnic groups, six republics and the Adriatic sea. Of all employed, 39% were women. In that year, among feminists, nationalism was not yet an issue, abortion neither, the law of 1976 legalized abortion free and on demand. Average standard implied that more than 70% of families have washing machines. Kindergartens were for free, and there were not enough of them. School system and medical care were also state covered and free. Trade unions, instead of protecting worker's rights, took care that workers and their families go to vacations. "Communism before 91", we used to say, "was paradise for children".

Women and Development Glossary
By Line Paradis. The Women and Development Glossary , prepared for the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, includes commonly used terms, expressions and official titles that may pose a translation problem. Since Women in Development is a broad theme, the glossary contains terminology from a variety of fields and areas of concern, e.g. education, health, violence, human rights, economics, politics, gender equity and environment. In all, some 850 entries were retained after study. Given the important role that women play in development, such a glossary was long overdue and should be of interest not only to translators and writers, but also to all women and men working in the field of development. All comments on the glossary can be sent to the author, Line Paradis, at

From the Interparliamentary Union. "Anyone wishing to know what has been written on the subject of women's participation in political life or on a particular aspect of this question is faced with a challenge: not so much the challenge of the scarcity of bibliographical references, but rather that of the difficulty of gaining access to a reliable database containing a broad selection of bibliographical references grouped by affinities. ... Women in Politics seeks to fill this gap. It has been developed with the contribution of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)."

94. Sudan Q & A
Brief background information to Sudan including slavery, politics, Islam and the status of women.
http://members.aol.com/casmasalc/newpage8.htm
[This information was compiled and provided by The American Friends Service Committee Where is Sudan? Located in northeast Africa, the Sudan is the largest country in Africa. The Nile River extends the entire length of the country (more than 1000 miles),l following north from Uganda through the Sudan into Egypt. Sudan's capital is Khartoum and is located where the White and Blue Niles meet. With a population of 31 million, the Sudan is sparsely populated, and its vast distances present a particular problem for travel and development. What is the economic base? Cotton, gum Arabic (used in candy and cola), peanuts, sesame, and other agricultural products are the Sudan's min exports. Oil fields in southern Sudan are being exploited by Arakis Energy Corporation, a Canadian company, which appears to be taking advantage of the political situation. The water and silt of the Nile are essential for agriculture, and the Nile is important for transportation as well. What is the Sudan's colonial history?
