Human Services: Variety is the key feature of the jobs in the human service area. These jobs provide important functions in our communities. People in these jobs will be working in the hospitality and recreation field, public and community services, or family/consumer and personal service areas. The hospitality and recreation field is for those who like the idea of a career that helps people enjoy their free time and the time they spend away from home. The jobs of workers in public and community services are necessary to keep the nation and state running smoothly and efficiently. Public service employees ensure that school children learn; that taxes get collected; that heat, electricity, light, and water are available in homes, schools, and workplaces; that waste is carted away and disposed of properly; and that people are safe on the streets and at home. Government officials, judges, lawyers, senators and congressmen are an integral part of your communities.

    by Kathy Branaugh
Mission Statement The mission of the library media program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. The mission is accomplished by providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats; providing instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing and using information and ideas; and working with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of individual students. (Information Power, p. 1) This is the mission statement that I gave my administration when asked what is the purpose of the library. I needed this statement to show my administrators why the library is such an important part of the school. We as library media specialists are not people who just sit and check out books. Though we may not deal with students seven or eight periods a day, we do have many "chores" to do. When school started last year, I went in to visit my new principal. She told me that I was the third administrator of the school. I finally found someone who realized the work it takes to run a library media center. The administrative functions of the school library are often done behind-the-scenes but are essential to the operation of the library. The library must serve teachers and students to its fullest and it is your responsibility to make that happen. There are communities where the school library is the only library in town. Are you prepared to serve the community as well as the school?

With all of Wisconsin's public television stations now broadcasting digital television, there's a foundation built for future increases in schools' access to more interactive and user-oriented digital forms of instructional content.
The Wisconsin Educational Communications Board (ECB) will regularly update this area to help schools more clearly understand how digital TV and digital instructional media can fit into their future plans. For more on the information (library media) and technology planning process, visit the DPI Web site on the district technology plan certification process
At DPI workshops on "Writing a Combined Information (Library Media) and Technology Plan," it's noted that relevant research shows increased student engagement levels during authentic inquiry/problem-based learning activitiesand studies have also shown resulting increase in test scores. Research by the Wisconsin Educational Communications Board (ECB) has led to testing new ways that DTV can support such learning. A PBS report on this research noted that "Access to digitized primary source materials and a searchable database of rich media files are valuable tools

Lincoln Elementary School
History
A two-story, four-room school built in the mid 1890's and first used on February 3, 1896, was originally called the Fourth Ward School. In December of 1906, the name was changed to Lincoln School. It was located on the site of the present Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department on the corner of Fourth Street and Vine Avenue.
The Lincoln school mascot is a Lion.
The Lincoln School Student Council was established in 1976. Over the years, the Council has cultivated student leadership and promoted school events and community service projects. Currently, the Council is undergoing a transition in organization. The Council membership is moving away from elected classroom representatives to an open membership, where all 3-6 grade students who want to participate in student council are welcome.
Lincoln School's PTO is very active and involved in the school community. They have recently purchased soccer goals and new basketball poles and backboards for the playground. This group has done many other things and arranged a number of activities for staff and students on an annual basis. Staff and students feel they have the best PTO in town! Enrollment figures:

Impact of School Library Media Centers on Academic Achievement An article from School Library Media Quarterly by Keith Curry Lance, Director, Library Research Service, Colorado which details the Colorado study which looked at the relationship between funding of Library media centers and student achievement. One conclusion was that students at schools with better-funded Library media centers tend to achieve higher average reading scores, whether their schools and communities are rich or poor and whether adults in their community are well or poorly educated.

The Medical College of Wisconsin is a private, independent medical school located on the campus of the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center. The College is one of 13 private, freestanding medical schools in the US and ranks in the top 40% of all medical schools in the nation for federal research funding support.
The Medical College of Wisconsin traces its roots back to 1893 with two proprietary medical schools. By 1913 the two schools were absorbed by Marquette University and became the Marquette University School of Medicine. In 1967 Marquette University, due to financial constraints, terminated its sponsorship fo the medical school. The school then became a private, freestanding institution and in 1970 was renamed the Medical College of Wisconsin.
The College moved into its new building on the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center campus in 1978.
