Home-Based Education Youth Criteria for Entrance Return to the STW home Home-Based Education Wisconsin statutes pertaining to home-based private educational programs include s. 115.001 (3g), Home-Based Private Educational Program; s. 118.15, Compulsory School Attendance, and s. 118.165 (1), Private Schools. Wisconsin Statute 118.15(4), states that Section 118.165(1), WI Statute, requires that a program of at least 875 hours of instruction, which includes a sequentially progressive curriculum of fundamental instruction in six subject areas (reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, and health), be provided each school year. A suggestion for the parent/guardian of a home-based private educational program is that an outline of the curriculum used and a copy of the school calendar identifying days on which instruction is offered be maintained in the home. Wisconsin Technical College Statute 118.15, Compulsory Education, states that children must remain in a school setting (public, private, or home-based) until the age of 18. For the student for whom a home-based setting has been chosen by a parent or legal guardian, there must be documentation of yearly application to the Department of Public Instruction showing their plan to provide a minimum of 875 hours of instruction per school year in the six previously listed academic areas. Wisconsin Technical Colleges only serve students under the age of 18 through a written contract with a high school or outside of established normal school hours. Compulsory education students are to have a three-party contract signed by the technical college, the public school and the parent. An exception to this would be a student who has graduated from an accredited secondary school before the age of 18.
