Agendas Fire Department Marina Photo Gallery ... Home City Hall Re-Dedication The City of Port Washington takes great pride in its municipal facilities. The renovation of City Hall is the latest upgrade that improves the efficiency of City services. The renovation is the first to City Hall since its construction in 1958. City Hall was opened in July of 1958. The total cost to construct the original City Hall was $277,373.00. The original City Hall housed City Council Chambers, Administration Offices, the Engineering Department and the Police Department. Previous to the construction of City Hall, the property housed a Community Hall. This building was used for a variety of purposes such as a movie theatre, basketball court, boxing area, beer garden, boarding house, public library, American Legion quarters and a theatrical group known as the Port Players. Plans to renovate the City Hall Building were informally discussed when the Police Department building was constructed in 1995. The idea was to more efficiently use the office space on the first floor and create new offices in the basement area. Construction bids were approved by the City Council August 7, 2001. Construction formally began in September. | |
