As a Registered Nurse I pride myself in being an advocate for my patients. This summer I plan on being the ultimate advocate and I am asking you to join me in the greatest adventure of my lifetime. I am proud of my profession as a Nurse. I am proud of the fact that I care enough about people that I can speak out on their behalf. I am proud that I can help people through their times of need and illness. Now, I am going to be proud that I am doing something that can make a difference in so many lives. Let me share with you my excitement about a challenge I have taken that finds me testing my own physical, mental and spiritual boundaries while influencing the future of other people, many I may never meet directly. Together, 1,800 riders are riding to show our solidarity and support for people affected by the HIV/AIDS virus and to raise more than $8 million. Money raised by the Chicago AIDS Ride 4 is used to provide funding for AidsCare, Inc., Canticle Place, Chicago House, Community Response, Howard Brown Health Center, Sinai Family Health Centers, AIDS research, and other HIV/AIDS-related services of the Wisconsin and Illinois AIDS Foundations. In addition to the physical challenge ahead of me, I have agreed to raise at least $2,300 in pledges between now and the ride. I need your help and would like you to be a partner in my efforts. Would you please make a pledge (on the enclosed pledge form) to help me meet my goal? Look the form over and designate the amount that is right for you. Please keep in mind how far I am riding, the commitment I have made, how long I will have to train for this challenging event, and the number of people that the Chicago AIDS Ride 4 has the ability to help!

"The ultimate measure of a person is not where they stand in
moments of comfort and convenience, but where they
stand at times of challenge and controversy"
- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. -

I’ve Made a commitment
in the battle against AIDS that’s very important to me. From July 10 - 15, I’ll be riding a bicycle 500 miles, the entire distance from the Twin Cities (Minneapolis St. Paul, Minnesota) to Wisconsin down to Chicago. I’ll be participating in the Twin Cities > Wisconsin > Chicago Aids Ride 5 Presented by Tanqueray with 2,000 other people.
I’ve also made the commitment to raise $2,300 in order to participate in the Ride. Together, we hope to raise over $6 million for six not-for-profit organizations in Chicago. Without these agencies, many individuals with AIDS might literally have nowhere else to turn.
Over 360,000 Americans have died of AIDS in the last 16 years. That’s more than 6 times the number of Americans who died in the Vietnam War. I’m doing the AIDS Ride because I want to make a bold statement that’s as big as this disease.
I need your support in helping me attain my goal of $2,300. Together, we could help fight this deadly battle. Please help me overcome this great challenge by making a pledge.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin
With its close proximity to the beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline just outside of Milwaukee, our Waukesha branch is at the center of Wisconsin's first and largest business community. Named one of the 15 best cities in the United States to live and work by Fortune Magazine, Milwaukee is home to major breweries, industries, and a variety of professional sports. Milwaukee features a wide range of activities. Take a stroll along the Milwaukee River, which snakes through the heart of downtown. Along the way, there are brewpubs, theaters, restaurants with sprawling patios, and taverns pouring out live music into the air. To enjoy this aquatic splendor, there are river dining cruises and Venice-inspired gondola rides in the summertime. With the convention center downtown and the Brewers baseball club gearing up for swinging days and nights at Miller Park, Milwaukee has something for everybody. Indeed, Milwaukee puts on its proudest face in these warm-weather months, when Summerfest, one of the nation's largest music festivals, switches into high gear, and there's an ethnic festival on almost every street corner.

The 2001 Flood

www.2001flood.com
The Mississippi at Prairie du Chien, Wis. For many communities along the upper Mississippi River, the 2001 flood brought the second highest water levels on record. The 2001 flood crest exceeded the crests from the 1993 and 1997 flood at most locations. Only the 1965 flood was worse.
Over the winter of 2000 - 2001, there was heavy snow in southern Wisconsin, northern Iowa, and southern Minnesota. A late, rapid snowmelt combined with heavy rain, led to the flood. There were actually two flood crests in 2001 at many locations. The first occurred around April 20 to 25. Additional rain led to a second crest the week of April 29.
The early Spring flood forcasts indicated only minor flooding along the Mississippi. In early April, it became apparent that rapidly warming temperatures and rain would lead to significant flooding. The National Weather Service issued new forcasts calling for near record flooding in many locations, and the sandbagging began.
Flooding also occurred along the Minnesota and St. Croix rivers, both of which flow into the Mississippi. Flooding also occurred along the Red River, which flows north into Canada from Minnesota and North Dakota.
