A group of local residents who help to improve Victoria Park, Bristol, for people and wildlife.
http://www.ionacons.demon.co.uk/vpwg/
Victoria Park Wildlife Group Victoria Park Wildlife Group is a group of local residents who help to improve Victoria Park, Bristol for people and wildlife. We are an independent group approved by the City Council and funded by the Council and various businesses and trusts. We have been operating since 1989 and are seen as a good example of how local people can become involved in managing a park. We have regular meetings and work-days and welcome your involvement. How you can help... VPWG always welcomes extra help. We need practical help for the park projects and also background support in administration, design and fund-raising. Current Projects Tree Planting
Over 12 000 native trees and shrubs have been planted since 1989 in the form of hedgerows and copses. The trees are all doing very well and have really begun to change the appearance of the park.
The Wetland
This ambitious project has occupied a lot of our time. This area is a great attraction to children and pets, as well as wildlife. Repeated planting of trees and shrubs has helped the area become a leafy oasis in the middle of the park.
Butterfly garden
A different kind of flower-bed near the Bowling Green is specially designed to attract and feed insects.

Text Only A to Z SITEMAP Job Vacancies ... Wildlife
Wildlife
The Antarctic is an extreme environment for any organism to survive in, yet both marine and terrestrial habitats of the Antarctic, contain wildlife which has adapted (in some cases uniquely) to the extreme conditions and which effectively utilise available resources. Studying the wildlife of the Antarctic is important in order to understand the dynamics of the regions ecosystems, and the survival strategies and physiological adaptations of organisms in the extreme Antarctic environment. This is why the BAS Biological Sciences Division conducts various research programmes investigating Antarctic wildlife. Such research also helps to identify species response to environmental change events and subsequent effects on both the regional and the global environment. Research into species exploited by commercial fisheries in the Southern Ocean is especially important. An understanding of the major energy pathways, the principal interactions between key components of the Southern Ocean marine ecosystem as well as the interactions with the physical environment, enables living resources to be conserved effectively.

167. WILDLIFE DIVISION-Migratory Wildlife And Wetland Ecology
About Texas Parks and wildlife habitat management activities.
http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/nature/wildlife/migrate.htm
Migratory Wildlife and Wetland Ecology
Migratory game birds such as ducks, geese, cranes and doves are managed and regulated via an international system involving treaties between the United States, Canada and Mexico. Wildlife Division staff participate in this process through the Central Flyway Council and are involved in the collection and evaluation of numerous types of population, habitat, harvest and hunter surveys. Extensive coordination with other Central Flyway states and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service result in a simplified process for establishing hunting seasons and regulations. Conserving and managing important habitats plays a vital role for many migratory game bird species. Program staff work in partnership with other agencies, private landowners and conservation organizations to protect and enhance migratory game birds habitat. Texas participates in four “Joint Ventures” under the North American Waterfowl Management Plan. Wildlife Division staff help conserve native brush and wetlands habitat for white-winged doves, waterfowl and other wildlife through direct acquisition, technical guidance and (in some areas) financial assistance to private landowners. Program staff also coordinate reviews of proposed development projects, such as reservoir, highway and utility projects that affect the state’s wildlife resources and associated ecosystems. Technical information and recommendations are provided and coordinated with local, state and federal agencies, private landowners, corporations, development planners and consultants.

BIRDS OF NOVA SCOTIA by: Robie Tufts
Robie Tufts' Birds of Nova Scotia has been a fixture on the bookshelves of bird lovers since the first edition was published in 1961. Not only is it an excellent resource for anyone wanting to know about the birds that visit Nova Scotia, it is a pleasure to read, full of interesting observations, amusing anecdotes and beautiful illustrations. Since it was last published in 1986, several new species have been recorded in the province, and the status of some of the birds has changed. And although such revisions have yet to be made, it is our hope that in putting Robie Tufts' book up on the World Wide Web, we can encourage dialogue among bird lovers, and perhaps one day, provide readers with complete, up-to-date coverage of Nova Scotia's avifauna.
