81. Chipangali Wildlife Orphanage
Bulawayo, Zimbabwe facility offering shelter to orphaned, abandoned, and sick wild animals. Provides details of sponsorship programs, an overview of ongoing research, and bush camp photos and prices.
http://www.chipangali.co.zw/
Chipangali Wildlife Orphanage, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe Chipangali is an African word from the Chinyanja language Eastern Zambia) meaning open friendly country. Chipangali is a wildlife Orphanage and not a zoo which offers a home to Orphaned, abandoned and sick wild animals. Young animals continually find there way into homes of nature lovers throughout Zimbabwe. Other animals are orphaned as a result of some mishap such as the death of the mother, injuries or snaring. Chipangali Wildlife Orphanage is a registered Welfare Organisation (38/77) in Zimbabwe which was established by Vivian and Paddy Wilson in 1973. Many wild animals are kept as pets and are indeed appealing and fun to have around, but once adults these loving babies turn into dangerous and aggressive wild animals, it then at this stage that they become a pest. It is here where Chipangali is approached to take over the responsibility of these animals and there by offer a home and once the initial settling down process is complete most animals are integrated into release programs. The Aims of Chipangali
  • Wildlife Orphanage to preserve wildlife reared or born in captivity and to provide a home for the many injured, sick orphaned confiscated or abandoned wild animals
  • 82. Wildlife Ecology
Study of the distribution and reproductive status of grassland birds with respect to condition of grassland habitat in Virginia.

WILDLIFE ECOLOGY Distribution and Reproductive Status of Grassland Birds with respect to Condition of Grassland Habitat in Virginia Amy L. Meehan and Carola A. Haas The most precipitous declines in populations of songbirds in the eastern U.S. have been xhibited not by forest interior migrants, but by species that breed in grassland or shrubland habitats, according to data from Breeding Bird Survey routes. Many of these species were native to the extensive pine savannas that occupied much of the southeastern coastal plain and to the open habitat that occurred in the Shenandoah Valley. In the summer of 1996 we began preliminary field work to determine the breeding status in Virginia of several species of grassland bird, including upland sandpiper, Bachman's sparrow, and Henslow's sparrow. We documented presence of upland sandpiper and Bachman's sparrow in the state during the breeding season. We began work on a more common grassland species, the grasshopper sparrow, to determine the usefulness of a reproductive index to assess site quality. Thaba Manzi Wildlife Services
    Background
Thaba Manzi (mountain of water) is situated at the foothills of the Waterberg mountain range, on the outskirts of Warmbaths/Bela Bela in the Limpopo Province, renowned as the peaceful province. It is from here that the initial concept was formed and developed. The concept centers around wildlife conservation through scientifically based practices of capture, handling, transport and holding of animals. Thaba Manzi was formed in the early nineteen eighties when the need for a professional and ethical operator within what was then an embryonic industry, was identified. Since those early days Thaba Manzi Wildlife Services has gone from strength to strength, pioneering new aspects of animal welfare, operational techniques and equipment without once losing its commitment to professionalism and ethics. It is this ethos that has now established the corporation as the industry leader, setting standards for the future.
    Operations
Naturally we work within the Wildlife Translocation Association of South Africa’s (WTA) Code of Conduct (See Annexure 1). In accordance with this all the staff are fully trained and where required, have the necessary qualifications or licenses.

Information on native plant, bird, butterfly and wildlife gardening in Florida.
    http://www.nsis.org/garden/garden-native-wildlife.html
Wildlife Gardening Gardening for wildlife is simple if you're aware of what wildlife is in your area and what their needs are. You may wish to attract wildlife to feed in your yard or go further and provide a diverse habitat. Wildlife habitat necessities
    Cover
Plants provide wildlife with protection from weather and predators as well as a place to rest, eat, and raise young. Often plants also provide food, and some will collect rain water for drinking, too.
    Food
All wildlife feed on plants or other animals. Ideally, the diversity of plants in the yard will provide year-round food.
    Water
Fresh drinking water is essential for wildlife. Some animals need bodies of water for egg laying and early development and some live partially or entirely in water. Ponds are gaining in popularity, but simply placing a birdbath or large plant saucer filled with fresh water will supply the needs of a wide variety of wildlife.

Directions Lake ... Trapping Coffeen Lake is an attractive site with history of providing anglers and hunters success. The site was opened in 1986 and currently operates under a long term lease and management agreement between the Illinois Dept. of Natural Resources and Ameren Energy Generating Company. This agreement grants authority to the State to open the lake and certain lands to the public for recreational activities such as fishing, boating, picnicking and hunting.
    History
The original power company built a 75-foot high earthen dam on a branch of the east Fork of Shoal Creek in 1963. The lake was completely filled by 1966 and now serves as cooling water for the coal-fired Coffeen Power Station. The power station has a generating capacity of 945 megawatts of electricity, with the first unit coming into operation in 1965 and the larger, second unit in 1972. The heated discharge affects 73% of the surface water. The cooling loop is 4.1 miles.
    Natural Features
The oak-hickory forests surrounding Coffeen Lake are representative of the native cover found within the Southern Till Plain Natural Division of central and southern Illinois. Soils are of loess and till, rather light and a characteristic "claypan" can be found. Pre-settlement vegetation was a mixture of 60 % forest to 40% prairie and wetlands. A variety of trees, woodland and prairie plants cover the slopes of the stream valley. Visitors may also find a diverse wildlife community. Muskrats, turtles, herons and mussels are seen in or near the water. Red-tailed hawk, blue jay or a dragonfly might be seen in the air. Bobwhite, coyote, white-tailed deer and black rat snake are common to the area. The opportunity to observe and enjoy the area's rich wildlife heritage is available.
