Thaba Manzi Wildlife Services
Background
Thaba Manzi (mountain of water) is situated at the foothills of the Waterberg mountain range, on the outskirts of Warmbaths/Bela Bela in the Limpopo Province, renowned as the peaceful province. It is from here that the initial concept was formed and developed. The concept centers around wildlife conservation through scientifically based practices of capture, handling, transport and holding of animals. Thaba Manzi was formed in the early nineteen eighties when the need for a professional and ethical operator within what was then an embryonic industry, was identified. Since those early days Thaba Manzi Wildlife Services has gone from strength to strength, pioneering new aspects of animal welfare, operational techniques and equipment without once losing its commitment to professionalism and ethics. It is this ethos that has now established the corporation as the industry leader, setting standards for the future.
Operations
Naturally we work within the Wildlife Translocation Association of South Africa’s (WTA) Code of Conduct (See Annexure 1). In accordance with this all the staff are fully trained and where required, have the necessary qualifications or licenses.

HUNTING HOME
Applications Big Game Eligibility Big Game Information Sheets, Draw Odds and Harvest Statistics ... NDOW HOME Hunting Nevada offers a diverse array of hunting opportunities. Hunted species include big game such as mule deer, Rocky Mountain elk, three sub-species of bighorn sheep, pronghorn antelope, and mountain goat. Some of the most popular upland game species include chukar partridge, California and Gamble's quail, ruffed grouse, blue grouse, dove, and the Himalayan snowcock, an introduced species from Asia that is unique to the Ruby Mountains in northeastern Nevada. The seasons and regulations for all of Nevada's hunted species are available on this site. Available hunting applications are also posted, as well as draw results. Nevada is a large state, and consequently a prospective hunter will need to do some homework, and perhaps some scouting, in order to successfully pursue Nevada game species. Site Map
Directions Lake ... Trapping Coffeen Lake is an attractive site with history of providing anglers and hunters success. The site was opened in 1986 and currently operates under a long term lease and management agreement between the Illinois Dept. of Natural Resources and Ameren Energy Generating Company. This agreement grants authority to the State to open the lake and certain lands to the public for recreational activities such as fishing, boating, picnicking and hunting.
History
The original power company built a 75-foot high earthen dam on a branch of the east Fork of Shoal Creek in 1963. The lake was completely filled by 1966 and now serves as cooling water for the coal-fired Coffeen Power Station. The power station has a generating capacity of 945 megawatts of electricity, with the first unit coming into operation in 1965 and the larger, second unit in 1972. The heated discharge affects 73% of the surface water. The cooling loop is 4.1 miles.
Natural Features
The oak-hickory forests surrounding Coffeen Lake are representative of the native cover found within the Southern Till Plain Natural Division of central and southern Illinois. Soils are of loess and till, rather light and a characteristic "claypan" can be found. Pre-settlement vegetation was a mixture of 60 % forest to 40% prairie and wetlands. A variety of trees, woodland and prairie plants cover the slopes of the stream valley. Visitors may also find a diverse wildlife community. Muskrats, turtles, herons and mussels are seen in or near the water. Red-tailed hawk, blue jay or a dragonfly might be seen in the air. Bobwhite, coyote, white-tailed deer and black rat snake are common to the area. The opportunity to observe and enjoy the area's rich wildlife heritage is available.

Today, the serious hunter is more interested in the future of Deer, Turkey, Grouse, Pheasants and other wildlife than ever before. Wildlife management has become the mainstay of the long term commitment to the quality of our Natural Resources.. Research clearly indicated that nutrition plays a major role in the development and overall health of deer and other wildlife. Through research, it is found that a nutritionally deprived buck will produce less antler and body mass, however, increasing protein and vitamin/mineral levels will drastically increase those. During high nutritional states, such as antler development, the rut, pre and post birthing, and nursing, these animals require increased mineral intake for optimum health and development. With the products offered through Hubbard Wildlife Services, Inc., you will be able to provide the nutrition and habitat for years to come through the development of food plots and supplemental mineral feeding stations.

160. Biggs Wildlife Pond
Documents a private owners pond, with pictures and articles.
http://www.bigsnestpond.net/
Welcome to the Biggs' Wildlife Pond
"Big Red" a Big Red [aka Flame] Skimmer -
king of the pond Our pond in its 4th year -
April 2000
We've built our pond in our Sebastopol, California backyard, in the hole that was left when we took down our above ground pool (the deep end was dug in). We've used mostly native plants, many of which we have found along the roadsides from San Francisco, CA to Tillamook, OR. A lot of the fun in building this pond has been finding the plants, identifying them, and just seeing what will survive and what won't. We've also collected our own rocks, and even the fish that populate the pond! One of our biggest joys is seeing all the `critters' it supports, especially the dragonflies!
We encourage everyone to consider putting in a pond for wildlife.
It is a real joy.
POND PROGRAMS:
I give programs on building ponds for wildlife and also on dragonflies. Click here to go to a page that lists them: Contact me for more information on any of these programs. Read my article on the Pleasures of Wildlife Ponding.
