125. Wiccan Festivals
wiccan Festivals. Many describe Samhain as the start of the wiccan year but some see the first annual festival as the one of new beginnings.
http://www.change.freeuk.com/learning/relthink/wiccafests.html
Wiccan Festivals
There are eight main festivals, four using the Solar Calendar and four Celtic. As with the practice of some other religions, festivals start at sunset and go through to sunset the next day. Solar festivals depend on the rotation of the earth for exact dates but in any case Wicca is flexible about dates and ceremonies. Although this article concerns the northern hemisphere, the table below gives the southern solar variant. Name Other faith's Type Northern Southern Imbolc Candlemass Celtic February 1st/ 2nd Spring Equinox Solar March 20th/ 21st September 21st/ Beltane May Eve Celtic May 30th/ April 1st Midsummer Longest Day Solar June 21st/ 22nd December 21st/ 22nd Lammas/ Lughnasadh Loaf Mass Celtic July 31st/ August 1st Autumn Equinox Solar September 21st/ 22nd March 20th/ 21st Samhain All Hallows Eve/ Halloween Celtic October 31st/ November 1st Yule Christmas (period) Solar December 21st/ 22nd June 21st/ 22nd Imbolc is when new life appears and the days start to get longer. The goddess is back into the land. Altars should use snowdrops and candles. White is the colour. This is the time to plan and make first steps towards realising projects. Many describe Samhain as the start of the Wiccan year but some see the first annual festival as the one of new beginnings. Magic is to cleanse and bring about the new. Spring Equinox has more fertility still. Again it is the time for newness and beginnings, like sowing seeds. So there is seed cake on the altar, catkins, flowers that appear like daffodils and painted green eggs. The colour is green and the magic is about material beginnings.

Merry Meet
Edain McCoy became a self-initiated Witch in 1981 and underwent a formal initiation in 1983 with a large San Antonio coven. She has been researching alternative spiritualities since her teens when first introduced to Kaballah, or Judaic mysticism. Since that time she has studied a variety of magickal traditions including Celtic/ Irish, Appalachian, Eclectic Wicca, Curanderismo, Jewitchery, and Irish Wittan; the latter in which she is a priestess of Brighid and an elder.
Born in August 11, 1957, and raised during the turbulent 1960s, her open-minded parents encouraged her to learn everything she could about subjects of interest to her. Though her father spent almost his entire life as an ordained minister of a liberal Protestant sect, he always supported his children's spiritual choices, allowing them to discovered on their own the similarities and differences that keep us all chasing down different spiritual pathways seeking the enlightenment that we hope will lead us to reunion with our creator.
An alumnus of the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Arts in history, she is affiliated with several professional writer's organizations including The Authors Guild and Romance Writers of America. Edain has been writing for publication since she was a high school reporter for her town's local paper, "Which was more years ago than I want to think about," she laughs.

127. Branches Of Wicca
wiccan Paths (Traditions). Gardnerian Wicca. Reincarnation and the wiccan Rede An it harm none do what you will are basic tenants of the tradition.
http://www.pagans.org/wicca/branches/branches.html
Wiccan Paths
(Traditions)
Gardnerian Wicca
A retired British civil servant named Gerald B. Gardner is the 'Grandfather', at the very least, of almost all Neo-Wicca. He was initiated into a coven of Witches in the New Forest region of England in 1939 by a High Priestess named 'Old Dorothy' Clutterbuck. In 1949 he wrote a novel [*High Magic's Aid*] about medieval Witchcraft in which quite a bit of the Craft as practiced by that coven was used. In 1951 the last of the English laws against Witchcraft were repealed (primarily due to the pressure of Spiritualists) and Gardner published *Witchcraft Today*, which set forth a version of the rituals and traditions of that coven. There is an enormous amount of disagreement about virtually every statement I have made in this paragraph. Gardnerism is both a tradition and a family, and lineage is a family tree. The High Priestess rules the coven, and the principles of love and trust preside. We follow our handed down book more carefully than many others, but we are free to add and improvise, as long as we preserve the original. We work skyclad, practice binding and scourging, are hierarchal and secretive, therefore we are controversial. We're also controversial because we were first - the first craft tradition in the U. S. and descended from the man largely responsible for starting the craft revival. So, we're called 'the snobs of the craft', but I think we're as much fun as anyone else; our parties as good, our jokes as bad'

A Converted Wiccan:
Victoria's Testimony
Why I Left the Church When I was about 10 years old, my Mom and I occasionally attended the Seventh-day Adventist church in a nearby town. The Adventist Church was very legalistic back then, though I did not understand what that meant and so had no concept of that at the time. I thought of myself as a Christian though I had never had a conversion experience or asked Jesus into my heart. I'm not even sure I ever heard the Gospel clearly explained to me. I gave intellectual assent to the truth, that Jesus was the Son of God who came to die for my sins, but I didn't have a personal relationship with Him. This was not a saving faith, for the Bible says that "even the demons believeand tremble" (James 2:19). The turning point toward disaster came when I borrowed a sermon tape from the church library. The tape basically said that Christians never sin. They probably used Scripture references such as I John 5:18 "We know that no one born of God sins." But this is a poor translation. What it actually means in the Greek is that no one born of God continues in sin, that is, a truly saved person will not be able to live in continuing sin. It does not means that a saved person never sins, for I John 1:8 says "If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. First John 1:9 starts off "If we confess our sins..." This presupposes that Christians do sin. Moreover, verse 10 continues the thought. "If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a lair, and His word is not in us."

I personally have never had a problem with anyone because of their beliefs, but I do have a problem with people trying to impose their beliefs on others. I believe in just like some people believe in angels! Wiccans use many different things in practicing their religion. The most valuable thing in a Wiccan's eyes is nature. Everything in nature is precious. Many Wiccans are vegetarians and believe in reincarnation. This is only some peoples views. Not every Wiccan is a vegetarian and not every vegetarian is Wiccan. Many Wiccans cast spells but again not all of them do. Those that do use many different things to aid them in making their spells stronger. For example, if someone wanted to relieve stress they might take a bath with Jasmine oil in the water, and a blue candle burning. Spells don't have to include words!
