161. Irvine Welsh Bio - Link To Short Story 'A Fault On The Line'
Biography and a rough guide of his works.

Home THE BARCELONA REVIEW IRVINE WELSH A Fault on the Line (Short Story by Irvine Welsh) I rvine Welsh lives in London. His first book Trainspotting (1993) reached the last top ten for the Booker prize and was turned into a successful film and stage play. His other books are The Acid House , a collection of short stories published in 1994, a second novel, Marabou Stork Nightmares (1995), and most recently Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance , published in 1996. He is currently working on a third novel, Filth , due for U.K publication in Autumn 1998. He made a hit single (No. 17 in the UK) with Primal Scream and is working on a 'disco' album with DJ Kris Needs. Four stories from The Acid House are currently being made for television by Channel 4. His books have been translated into eleven languages around the world. UPDATE : Check out review of 'Filth' from issue 9 A Very Rough Guide to Irvine Welsh rainspotting 1993.The first book and the best known thanks to the film but it was already doing well before the hype and the movie release. Practically flawless and easily one of the most important and influential books to come out of Britain in the last 30 years or so and will certainly have its place in the history of British literature. Essential to any book collection. There is also a stage version.

TRAVEL Travel Home London Guide Touring Online Planning Resources ... Scotland An Introduction to Welsh Literature Those of us who know better recognize that from evidence of surviving works by sixth century poets Taliesin and Aneirin, Welsh can claim to be the oldest attested vernacular literature in Europe. (Surviving literature from England is in Old English and thus not in the vernacular: only scholars can read it for understanding; Scottish literature is mainly written in Middle English). In addition, both Taliesin and Aneirin were inheritors of an already old and sophisticated bardic tradition that was common to the Celtic peoples of Europe. Wales possesses a rich literature that amply rewards its study. It has a long and impressive history. Chapter 1: Heroic Poetry Chapter 2: The Saga Poems Chapter 3: Arthuriana Chapter 4: Giraldus Cambrensis Chapter 5: The Mabinogion Chapter 6: The Court Poets Chapter 7: Poets of the Gentry Chapter 8: Poetry of Discontent Chapter 9: The Welsh Bible Chapter 10: The Renaissance Chapter 11: 17th Century Religious Literature Chapter 12: 18th Century Wales Chapter 13: Influence of London

The Welsh Assembly Education Minister Jane Davidson has announced the award of a contract to pilot a new international-style qualification to replace A-levels in Wales. The minister revealed on Thursday that the Welsh Joint Education Committee (WJEC) - the only organisation to tender for the work - would be given control to set up the qualification in Wales. A-levels could become a thing of the past in Wales Ms Davidson said the WJEC's plans were an "exciting and innovative model" and the organisation would now be given £600,000 to develop the project in the current financial year. But a former senior executive of the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) has criticised the proposed qualification in its current form. Colin Jenkins, who was director of IBO examinations, is warning against basing the "Welsh Bac" on a mix of the heavily criticised AS level system and A-levels. The Welsh Assembly Education Minister Jane Davidson has said the new exam will be built on the blocks of AS-levels, A-levels, Vocational A-levels, Key Skills and GNVQs.

Which direction do you want to translate? Welsh to English English to Welsh What type of match to you want? Whole word Partial word (slow) Attempt translations (may be slow) Word:
    Instructions
    1. When you translate from "Welsh to English" using "Whole word" mode, the lookup engine attempts to undo any mutations before looking up the word. It also recognizes and explains most conjugated verb forms. 2. When using "Partial word" mode, you can specify the following special characters:
Matches the beginning of the line (if at the start)
Matches the end of the line (if at the end)
    Matches or more letters.
    [letters]
Matches only those letters contained within the braces
Thus, in "Partial word" mode, you can find all the words that begin with 'c' or 'g' and end with 'i' by entering "^[cg]*i$". 3. If you select "Attempt translations", then the lookup engine will suggest possible ways to translate the exact form of the word that was entered. This option is only valid when translating from Welsh to English in "Whole word" mode.

Jonathan and Sally Rees are a young couple from Mochdre, a small hamlet about 4 miles from Newtown in Mid Wales.
Jonathan has played a very active role within his Young Farmers Club (YFC) and represented the National YFC on an exchange programme to Kenya as well as representing his county throughout Wales.
Sally started her career as a Staff Nurse in London before moving back to Wales where she met Jonathan, a keen and enterprising young farmer, then in the fullness of time they married. Their first son Maldwyn was born in September 2003.
Their farm, Tyn Y Fron, is a traditional Welsh long house set amongst the gentle Montgomeryshire hills, where their stock graze freely. It was here that their dream was born, which eventually became Welsh Farm Organics. Jonathan, having farmed on the family farm in the Dugwm Valley all his life, noticed a gap in the market for more affordable organic meat, so in 2001 the obtained Organic status. To back this up, they began planning for a processing unit back in July 2001. The lack of availability of good quality organic Welsh beef and lamb was apparent to Jonathan as a farmer and he felt the public/consumer deserved to have full traceability of their meat, to experience meat tasting as it should and be able to buy it without paying the usual, onerous, Organic premium. Thus Welsh Farm Organics was born.

    All About Murray
Murray is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. He is mostly tan, but with a white belly, white paws, and a white streak down his face. His birthday is December 1st, 1999
    In his free time...
Murray likes to do puppy things. He has endless amounts of energy. Some of his hobbies are barking at other dogs, chasing our cats, chewing anything he can get his paws on, and running anywhere and everywhere. He even plays hide and seek in our back yard! His fave toy in the Squeaky Hamburger
    No dog too big!
On his first visit to the vet, Murray was a barking Maniac (the vet's office was busy)! he started barking at a huge, full grown Doberman, and scared it so much, they had to push the frightened Doberman to the exam room, past Murray.

updated: 8th June 2004 C.E. I can't believe how fast the days are flying by! June actually started (for us, at least) on Memorial Day with Itchy and I driving up the day before to the Michaux Madness Extreme Endurance Ride in Mont Alto, PA. I was surprised to see the trails were all going to be in the mountains had I know earlier I may not have gone due to my pony just coming back from a hurt back (caused by a bit too enthusastic playing in the pasture!). However, the weather was stunning, and just too beautiful to pass up. I'm delight to say my pony and I finished 3rd overall (out of 50 competitiors), 1st Featherweight, and once again we are now qualified for the 2004 AERC National Championship ride. Won't be going it's out in California this year, and driving all the way acros the country to ride 50 miles is in my book a bit silly. We'll just have to wait for the 2006 championships in Michigan, and then hope we are qualified for them!
