Weed Science Objectives: The main objective of the group is to improve the cost-effectiveness of weed control in sugar beet whilst enhancing the environmental benefits that can accrue from weed control practices.
The group provides advice to farmers and advisers on weed control in sugar beet via articles in the press, a telephone helpline run by the Liaison Group , the www and within the new Grower’s Guide . It also advises manufacturers on the effects new products may have on weed control systems in sugar beet. Main Research Projects
  • DEFRA Field Scale Evaluations
  • SAPPIO LINK BRIGHT
  • Weed manipulation in Herbicide Tolerant crops

K-STATE WEED SCIENCE Who are we? K-State Weed Science has many different points of emphasis ranging from system level approaches of integrated weed management to understanding the complex interactions between herbicide and weeds or weeds and the environment. With this ongoing research, the dedicated weed science faculty, cooperators, and graduate students are poised to uncover new discoveries in weed science. Below are links to a few special projects which K-State Weed Science is currently pursuing. Weed Science The objectives of the weed science program are to advance scientific knowledge of the biological and ecological mechanisms and interrelationships by which weeds invade, infest, compete, and disseminate and to develop economically and environmentally sound management strategies to reduce their negative impacts. The graduate curriculum includes course work in plant physiology, experimental design, and advanced studies in weed science, along with selected areas of individual specialization. Current research efforts are devoted to weed management and weed control technology, weed ecology and herbicide fate and transfer processes.
