Introduction
The most successful activity I have been using involving the Internet and the World Wide Web is Internet Treasure Hunts (or Scavenger Hunts as they are alternatively known). In an Internet Treasure Hunt Treasure Hunts. Several of the Online Treasure Hunts have been specifically designed for ESL students and the Internet TESL Journal at http://www.aitech.ac.jp/~iteslj/th/ maintains a useful link to a collection of these. Other prepared Treasure Hunts can be found on the WWW. Some are for ESL students and others are designed for Primary or High school students but can often be used with ESL students as well. Alternatively, teachers can make up their own and even publish them on the web through their own homepage or through a site such as the Internet TESL Journal. A variation on the Treasure Hunt

WebQuests
Updated: 12/15/03 A wonderful way to get students on the INTERNET in quality learning situations is to create a Webquest or Scavenger Hunt. Hunts can be curriculum related and highly motivational. The teacher ensures "safer faster hunting" by finding the links first and cuts down on the time required to complete the hunt. They can be very simple or difficult depending on the student level. Questions can have a link for the student to click on to find the answer. Scavenger Hunts are usually one word or sentence answers. Webquests require more (analyzing, decisions-making, synthesizing) A hunt could take a student to many different websites OR just one. Other quests can require the student to search for the answer. Some quests supply key words and the particular search engine. Every time students visit a web site, they are working on reading comprehension

Jefferson Elementary School is a Louisiana Challenge Grant Site. It received Professional Improvement and Competitive Grants for three consecutive years to enhance a Professional Development Program. INTRODUCTION Throughout the developmental training, (1996-97) DEVELOPMENTAL TRAINING teachers were demonstrating and presenting methodologies and using on-line resources to enhanced their classroom delivery. During the second year,(1997-98) we focused on refining these methodologies as well as training teachers to create Web-based instructional activities to bring back to their classrooms. Web-based instructional activities provided the structured vehicles for content learning as well as for methodology. The instructional models used in this training, Activity Formats (http://www.kn.pacbell.com/wired/fil/formats.html) , provided developmentally appropriate experiences that progressed from open exploration tasks (HOTLISTS) , to knowledge-building tasks (TREASURE HUNTS) , to problem solving tasks (WEBQUESTS) , while transposing teacher-learners from beginners to experienced web-based teachers, one-step at a time.

    1. Individual Research
This is the most common way of using the internet in most secondary schools. Students are asked to find information on a subject they are researching and spend hours trying to find the right web page. Here are some hints to make this work better.
  • Do not allow students to choose a topic on which there is no information available. Browse a directory of internet web sites and choose research subjects from the sites listed. Younger students may wish to use something like Yahooligans, the Gander Academy or Kanuski: Elementary Students Teach internet research skills to the students. These include:

This news item submitted by Ann Trewern on 13/10/99.
Hi Everyone, A feel of spring is in the air as we welcome you to September. This month we are doing a series on a range good professional development sites for teachers. Not surprisingly much of what we want to know about the internet is freely available on the Internet. It is a matter of knowing where to go to find it so this is an attempt to dig out some good relevant and worthwhile sites for you that cover ideas about use of the Internet, integration into classroom programmes, good readible background articles and educational news site Want to know more about the Internet how it actually works and what it is? For those of you who are very new to the Internet some of the jargon will be completely incomprehensible. One site that is always useful is the • WebTeacher http://www.webteacher.org/macnet/indextc.html which provides technical details for just about everything you would want to know about the web and its functions from emailing through your web browser to FTP and image files and so on Another useful site to develop some Internet knowhow is
    • The Net Users Guidelines and Netiquette http://www.fau.edu/netiquette/net/index.html This site really deals with user responsibility in having access to vast services, sites, systems and people on the Internet. The user is ultimately responsible for his/her actions in accessing network services and it is important that teachers know and understand their responsibilties not only as personal users but when their students are users as well.

Part I A – Using Technology for Instructional Purposes:
Presentations are a part of teaching. When students pictures that do with words, they have a much better idea of what to do. That’s one reason to use a presentation program such as PowerPoint. When you are finished with this part o the course, you will have created a presentation that you can use in your classroom.
A: Presentation Programs for Instructional Purposes: Presentation programs include PowerPoint, HyperStuido, KidPix Slide Show, as well as many others. Teachers use presentation programs to describe a lesson better or more fully, to provide details to a lesson, to outline the main points of a lesson, to showcase work, or a scrapbook for student pictures and photographs. Students use presentation programs as a scrapbook for their work; as an outline for a oral report; as an outline for a written report; or as an electronic portfolio showing growth over time. Most presentation programs have similar features. After using several presentation programs, I’ve decided that PowerPoint by Microsoft is the best for me. If you are using PowerPoint, go to these websites for tutorials:
