FREE WEB PAGE Pick one from the list below and make your free web page There are dozens of great places to store your webpage. Geocities, Tripod and Angelfire are some of the best known of the free hosts for your webpage. However, many free webpage hosts now require pop ads that are distracting and annoying. Consequently, I would recommend finding a place that doesn't load annoying ads etc. Some features that are nice to have include: 10 mb or more of storage (although 5mb is probably enough), FTP capability, CGI capability and NO popup banner ads.

Cascading Style Sheets
Style Sheets allow you to control the rendering, e.g. fonts, colors, leading, margins, typefaces, and other aspects of style, of a Web document without compromising its structure. CSS is a simple style sheet mechanism that allows authors and readers to attach style to HTML documents. It uses common desktop publishing terminology which should make it easy for professional as well as untrained designers to make use of its features. Visual design issues, such as page layout, can thus be addressed separately from the web page logical structure. Designing CSS Web Pages - Part 2 The ability to use of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is fast becoming a vital tool in the web professional's toolkit. But understanding how to use CSS is not intuitiveit requires a new way of thinking when it comes to building web pages. Learn about structured markup and why ~you~ might be an HTML Terrorist.

Book Review of This Good Book for Beginning Web Site Designers
Teach Yourself Great Web Design in a Week by Anne-Rae Vasquez-Peterson and Paul Chow is a terrific book for the beginning web site designer. It does not teach how to make your web look suave, polished and professional - it does give you a good overview of the foundations. There are now more sophisticated books on web design than Teach Yourself Great Web Design in a Week by Anne-Rae Vasquez-Peterson and Paul Chow, including at least a new edition of one by a very artistic designer type, but this will start teaching you what you need. Teach Yourself Great Web Design in a Week by Anne-Rae Vasquez-Peterson and Paul Chow still sits close to my desk. Although I've absorbed most of the basic information (all right, so my site doesn't look suave and artistic it's not supposed to!), I still like to refer to the web safe color table when I'm selecting backgrounds for tables or web pages. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you really need to find this out. There are only 216 colors that you should use on your web site. That sounds like a lot to some of you. Those of you who know that four color professional printing has 1000s of colors, wonder why so few. It has to do with the technical capabilities of both Windows and Mac. Both operating systems has reserved some colors for their own use. So you should use only those colors that will display accurately, as you intended. You can specify other colors, but you can't blame a visitor's web browser if the "nearby" color it actually displays is not what you wanted.

    Fixing Your tm Web Site
The purpose of this site is to take your current web site design, discover what flaws may exist, and then correct them so your site can effectively sell products or disseminate information. But before you can fix your site, you have to recognize what's wrong with its current design. Since our education system here in America has been so poor and it's now geared toward ensuring that students learn how to take tests rather than learn anything, developing a critical eye hasn't been a high priority. It's more important for kids to pass tests so the schools receive government funding. Our schools also don't teach art, music, and much in the way of the humanities. Sigh. And you wonder why little Johnny is a thug?
Fixing Your tm Web Site with Dr. HTML
One of the goals of this site is to provide you with tools to help you fix your web site. It's not easy to take a web site that's underperforming and make it better. There are aesthetic issues, marketing issues and, most importantly, technical issues. That's where Doctor HTML can come in to help. You can't fix the technical issues if you don't know what they are. If I remember correctly, you can check up to five individual pages so give it a try.

HITS was founded four years ago by Kristin Windbigler, who grew up in Blocksburg and is now the executive producer of Webmonkey at Wired Digital in San Francisco. Should You Consider Doing Your Own Site?
We are often asked this question. You can certainly design your own web presence or have a beginner work on your site. However, few individuals have the skills needed to develop a Web presence. These skills include cosmetic and programming design expertise, business knowledge, and search engine site placement experience. Few beginners know the techniques that make a site easier and less expensive to maintain. An amateurish site can lead to expensive maintenance and its unprofessional appearance can do more harm than good. Our advice is that you retain a professional to build the structure and teach you how to later take over site maintenance. It is

Stephen J. Cartwright I remember the very first time I went online in 1994 I was amazed at the amount of information available and I was intrigued at how web pages were designed. Some time later in 1996, after returning from the Middle East I decided to learn everything I could about the Internet, how best to implement the Internet within a business environment to maximise revenue and business opportunities and of course I also learnt how to actually design websites. I remember learning html by utilising online learning resources, viewing the source code of existing websites and trying to understand how things actually worked. Written with my usual unusual sense of humor, this book is not dry like most teaching texts. With a minimum of technobabble and plenty of full color graphics, interspersed with unexpected punch lines, you will find learning really can be fun. Don't let the humorous aspect fool you though, this is a serious teaching text. The first edition was very popular, needing 3 separate printings to keep up with demand. Early indications are that this edition will be even more popular. Unsolicited User Comment
