Welcome to Mike's Ozone resource These pages make extensive use of CPC NOAA TOVS ozone data. Spreadsheet bar graphs, 56N 5W data, NW Europe graphics, comparison with average (dist.gif) and ozone hole value (ho220.gif) are calculated by Mike Trigger mainly using GRaDS for the PC. Ozone values are based on 1 deg TOVS GRIB data. This data was chosen because it estimates Ozone during the polar darkness whereas the available near real time TOMS data mostly requires daylight to obtain O3 values. PLEASE NOTE: WITH EFFECT FROM 1 AUGUST 2001 CPC TOVS DATA SOURCE HAS CHANGED FROM NOAA14 TO NOAA 16. This change has resulted in a decrease in averaged OZONE values by about 3%. The values appear to be lower than GOME, TOMS and other NOAA sources. The cause may be the method of calculation of the total ozone and may be related to the NOAA 14 night time cold temperature bias. It is expected (according to NOAA) that NOAA 16 will provide a longer term reliable data source ALL TOVS DATA FROM 1 AUGUST 2001 PREPARED BY MIKE WILL BE INCREASED BY 3%. TOVS NOAA/CPC untouched.
