Permanent oil spill containment booms have a rigid or semi-rigid barrier fabric that act as a vertical fence to contain oil, chemicals, or debris floating on the water. Permanent booms are usually made of a fabric that is by far greater in tensile strength, abrasion resistance and Ultra-Violet ray resistance (UV resistance) than the fabric typically used in a less expensive response boom.
