The campus has a lot of open-spaces, tree shaded areas and characteristic Mediterranean olive groves.
It lies at the foot of Mount Panachaikos with a view over the Gulf of Corinth to the mountains of central Greece across the water. People who come to Patras, whether for a short conference or an extended study period, tend to want to stay and usually come again and again. There are two football stadiums and several indoor basketball courts which host the local teams as well as visiting teams from other cities. The municipal swimming pool provides facilities for swimming and water polo teams. The sea, naturally, provides endless opportunities for water sports (windsurfing, swimming, water-skiing) and at the Marina, there is the Patras Yacht Club.

A complete Summary of the database contents is also available. The Bibliography Project research team credits can be viewed as well. Welcome
from Dr. Louis Grivetti, the project's compiler:
This year, 1996, marks the centennial celebration of the modern Olympic movement. In this spirit of celebration we acknowledge and recognize the names and publications of more than 50,000 historical and contemporary scholars, linked by the thread of a united, common interest in athletics, sport, and recreation. Athletics, games, leisure pursuits, physical education, play activities, and sports lie at the junction between the humanities, social sciences, and biological-medical sciences. While athletic activities most likely had their origin in military training, it is difficult in modern times to separate each theme: athletics from games, games from leisure pursuits and physical education, physical education from play, play from recreation, or recreation from sports. During past and present centuries research on human athletics, games, play, recreation, and sports has been conducted by a broad range of scientists, whether dietitians, nutritionists, physiologists, or physicians. Research on these themes also has been conducted by a broad range of scholars representing the humanities and social sciences, whether anthropologists, artists, classicists, dancers, economists, geographers, historians, musicians, psychologists, social theorists, or sociologists.

Year 2003 Inductees Lisa Carruthers (O.A.M) An Olympic Gold medal on home turf at the Sydney 2000 Olympic games was a fitting end to an excellent career for Canberra Strikers defender Lisa Carruthers. Described as playing the game at one pace, fast, Lisa was first selected in the Australian Senior team in June 1989 for a five test series against New Zealand. From this Lisa rose to great heights in her Hockey career, competing in three consecutive Olympics, collecting two Gold medals along the way. After celebrating her 200th game for Australia in the 1999 Oceania Cup, Lisa went on to represent Australia 230 times before deciding to hang up her boots in 2000. An experienced campaigner and a steadfast and valuable defender in any team Lisa has done the ACT region proud with her sporting endeavours.

Samaranch has told the bid cities: No visits, no gifts
The race to host the 2008 Olympic Games has begun in earnest. But International Olympic Committee president Juan Antonio Samaranch has warned the five bidding cities to observe the "no visits-no gifts" rules enacted after the Salt Lake City scandal. Almost two years to the day since Marc Hodler set off the biggest corruption scandal in Olympic history, five bidding cities came to Lausanne, Switzerland, on Wednesday to make their first direct pitches to the IOC executive board. Delegations from Beijing, Istanbul, Turkey, Osaka, Japan, Paris, and Toronto were each given 10 minutes to present their case for staging the 2008 Games.
That is very important - no visits, no gifts
Juan Antonio Samaranch The bidders then were allotted another 15 minutes to brief the international media. The five cities made the shortlist of finalists when the IOC pared the field in August.

Finnish Ski Club History by Raimo Ahti for the Fiftieth Anniversary festivities at the Finnish American Club of Saima December 31, 1996. The Finnish Ski Club was established September 14, 1946, at the Imatra Hall in Brooklyn New York. The officers were: Leo Carlson – president; Julie Auvinen, New Yorkin Uutiset sports editor, vice president; Eelis Ross – treasurer; Eino Massa – secretary; Emil Elo – communications; Leo Massa – race entries; Leo Sj gren – membership secretary. Two weeks later our club’s first dance, “Seuramme alkaistanssit,” was held at the Vesa Room at the 5 th Avenue Hall. Next, the Finnish Ski Club joined the Eastern Ski Association on January 25, 1947. That winter, a dozen FSC members went to an 18 km race in Worcester, Mass. The Scandinavian S.C sponsored the race. Leo Carlson told me he doesn’t remember how they did. Not too well because their equipment wasn’t really up to date.
