HAVE you ever walked near a water course, heard a mysterious splash and been left wondering about the identity of the creature so anxious to get out of your way? You may well have been tantalizingly close to the Eastern Water Dragon. If you were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of this lovely dragon before it plunged into the water you would probably see it basking on a tree limb overhanging a creek or river. From that vantage point it can drop without hesitation when threatened and remain submerged in the water for up to half an hour. I t is a semi-aquatic lizard with nostrils on top of its nose which enable it to breathe and check out the area for danger while remaining mostly underwater. It is arboreal - that is, adapted to living in trees and is therefore a skilled climber and uses water primarily as a refuge when alarmed. The Eastern Water Dragon occurs along water courses of the East Coast of Australia from southern New South Wales to Cape York Peninsula.

the most common thing that the water dragon population suffers are more insidious ie the dragons have them onset or the clinical problems it posses the lizard.

Welcome to the Water Dragon Life website
Calcium metabolism in Water Dragons
More than any other condition, lizards in the UK suffer from problems with calcium metabolism. This section refers to what constitutes good calcium management, but more can be found in other parts of the site on calcium deficiency and its associated clinical problems. I suggest that a calcium supplement is added to the diet at every meal! This usually takes the form of a straight calcium carbonate supplement, e.g. 'Calcium Dusting Powder' or 'Bone Aid Dusting Powder' or really any brand of 100% calcium carbonate supplement. As an alternative, 'Calcium Powder-plus' is a calcium Lactate powder that is more water soluble and thus easier to assimilate than the more traditional carbonate based powders and is perhaps therefore a better supplement overall in very small or convalescent animals. Whichever you choose, you can never overdose a Water Dragon on either of these supplements and it is thus best to use it liberally, all the supplement that the body does not need will pass through the animal unabsorbed. Other supplements such as 'Vitasaur', 'Nutrobol' or 'Reptivite' should be given every 3-4 days only during the growing stage and then every 5-7 days once adult. These products are necessary as they contain important minerals and vitamins, especially Vit. D, which aids the absorption of calcium from the gut. However, some of these vitamins are fat soluble so could be overdosed on if given in excess (especially Vit.A overdosing using Nutrobol). Thus limit it's use to this type of frequency.

  • Hi! My name is Tom, my handle is bearded dragon, my son gave it to me. We are Tom and Jackie. There is (of course) me, Tom and my wife, Jackie, sometimes known as Dragonlady. Jackie and I have 3 children and 12 grandchildren. We keep and raise Bearded Dragons from Australia. We have for over six years now. We think that the Bearded Dragon (the Pogona vitticeps)is one of, if not the greatest of all reptile pets. We just love them! We have the Inland Bearded Dragons and the Lawsons or Rankins Dragons. We also have a few other types of lizards, we also have the Argentina Red Tegu and a few geckos. Following is a list of most of our herps. Everytime we go to a herp show we add to our collection. So it is almost impossible to keep this list current but I will try. (Updated 04/15/2003)
